Princeton University Press (PUP), one of the top academic publishers, seeks a Staff Accountant to join the Accounting and Finance team for an organization of about 150 employees. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for a diversity of accounting responsibilities, including A/P for international vendors, monthly journal entries, account reconciliation, royalties management, and special projects. The incumbent must be able to cope with and effectively manage a changing environment.  They must be comfortable working in a team environment while being self-motivated. This candidate will also possess the ability to interact with a diversity of individuals, work independently, maintain confidentiality, and the desire to take on new challenges. This is a full-time position with comprehensive benefits and can be 100% remote or hybrid.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with accounts payable including processing payments for international vendors.
  • Processing monthly journal entries.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate completion of account reconciliations.
  • Approve royalties setup in our title management system, Biblio.
  • Manipulate sales files from our partners for internal processing and uploading/distributing as needed.
  • Responsible for filing and distributing 1099s and 1042s.
  • Assists with applications of subrights payments, accounting needs for special PUP programs, and annual budget process.
  • Where applicable, collaborates with Controller to identify areas to improve workflow processes, improve documentation, and implementation of improvements.
  • Actively support an inclusive environment to foster a sense of belonging for colleagues.

 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 1 year experience in an accounting position.
  • Accounting degree from a four-year college or university preferred but not required, or equivalent experience.
  • Audit experience is a plus.
  • Strong technical and analytical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including advanced Excel skills.        
  • Must be proficient in determining the application of Excel formulas to obtain specific results from large amounts of data. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics SL ERP system is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, multi-task, and coordinate efforts across functions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of colleagues.
  • Capacity to work independently for long periods of time.

Base Salary: $63,000/year plus extensive benefits package. Starting salary may be negotiable based on relevant skills and prior experience.
