GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:        The psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who focuses clinical practice on individuals, families, or populations across the life span at risk for developing and/or having a diagnosis of psychiatric disorders or mental health problems. The psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner is a specialist who provides primary mental health care to patients seeking mental health services in a wide range of settings. Primary mental health care provided by the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner involves the continuous and comprehensive services necessary for the promotion of optimal mental health, prevention and treatment of psychiatric disorders and health maintenance. This includes the assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health problems and psychiatric disorders.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Must be an RN, licensed to practice in the State of Kansas. Position requires advanced practice nursing knowledge with a Masters in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing. Post graduate experience preferred. Must have Kansas APRN License, Board Certification, and valid DEA registration.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Will maintain licensure, board certification, and DEA registration.  This position requires a current, valid Kansas Driver’s License.  Will obtain CPR and First Aid Training and renew training annually.  Will attend any other training and certifications directly related to this position.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is exposed to a typical office environment and interaction with many different persons in their homes and in the community.  In addition, the employee travels by automobile and is exposed to changing weather conditions.  The employee will interact with many different persons in varying stages of recovery from their mental illness.
