Summary of Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to provide quality, efficient table service in the dining room in accordance with the established policies and procedures and/or specific directives from the Dining Room Supervisor.  Has knowledge of the residents’ Bill of Rights.  Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with the aged and utilize a helpful and pleasant attitude.  Expected to follow good oral and personal hygiene.  Must have the ability to work in close cooperation with co-workers.  Must be able to understand and accept direction from supervisors.

 

The individual works with other members of the Department/Buildings in meeting goals and objectives in support of the Geer Corporation mission “to console, treat heal, strengthen and refresh bodies, hearts, minds and spirits of those whom we serve.” To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function successfully.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Sets up and resets tables throughout meal service.  Being sure the silverware, cups and glasses are clean and silverware and napkins are neatly in place.
  2. Assists in plating of salads and desserts for dining room service.
  3. Stocks wait staff stations.
  4. Clears dishes from tables during and after meal service.
  5. Answers pertinent questions about menu items and knowledgeable about produce items.
  6. Maintains standards for personal appearance and cleanliness.
  7. May restock buffet tables during dining services.
  8. Cleans work areas.
  9. Completes work assignments to all related tasks scheduled each day.
  10. Performs other related duties as required and directed by supervisor to provide support and assistance to other personnel further encouraging total resident care.
  11. Performs duties and assignments in keeping with safety policies and procedures.
  12. Demonstrates a courteous and respectful attitude toward staff, residents and visitors.
  13. Takes residents’ meal orders, places orders with kitchen and delivers meals accurately, efficiently and in a pleasant manner.
  14. Responsible for use and maintenance of dish washing machine.
  15. Properly disposes of trash and recyclables, food and waste.
  16. Sweeps and mops floors when and where needed.
  17. Uses and cleans food equipment.
  18. Is responsible for general and assigned sanitation duties in the kitchen and dining areas in conformance with sanitary, health and safety regulations.
  19. Prepares and portions various food items.
  20. Wraps, labels and dates prepared food items for storage.
  21. Prepares, set up, assembles and delivers resident trays.
  22. Answers and responds to calls from the Wellness Center.
  23. Follows departmental policy regarding personal hygiene, appearance and dress codes.
  24. Attends in-service and departmental meetings as required.
  25. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  26. Performs duties and assignments in keeping with safety policies and procedures.
  27. Demonstrates a courteous and respectful attitude toward staff, residents and visitors.

      Marginal functions will vary with the specific assignment and depend on the particular position function for which the person is responsible.

 

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Position requires the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Physical/COGNITIVE/Environmental

Physical:         

Sit: 10 %  

walk/stand:   90 %.

Position requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

Lifting: Frequent lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 20 pounds.

Sensory: Visual and auditory acuity.

Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable those senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

Position must meet the general health requirement of the facility to include a medical examination.

Cognitive: Ability to define problems, collect and organize information; establish facts and draw valid conclusions to solve the problem/handle the situation and exercise good judgment. Must be able to remain calm and to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position in what can become a stressful environment.

 

Environmental: Normal office environment subject to inside and occasionally outside environmental conditions.

  1. Work is primarily performed throughout the facilities.
  2. Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  3. Is involved with residents, personnel, family members, government agencies and general public under all conditions and circumstances.
  4. Works beyond normal working hours and in other positions when necessary.
  5. Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g. evacuation, severe weather, etc.).
  6. May be exposed to heat/cold temperatures.
  7. May be involved in community/civic activities.
  8. Is required to be on-call for emergency situations.
  9. May be involved in resident activities outside the facility.

 

Occupational Exposure:

Tasks assigned to this position may involve potential and/or exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, air contaminants and hazardous chemicals.

WORK HOURS: 3:30-7:30pm and Every other weekend

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: - HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA
