Description

This position is responsible for clerical and record-keeping functions within the Finance Department. The department is fast-paced and requires the ability to meet deadlines as well as work with the General Public in a tactful, pleasant, and courteous manner. The position also requires a high level of confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works directly with the Public on a daily basis, collecting payments in person or via telephone.
  • Performs processing and data entry of departmental monies, taxes, and miscellaneous receipts.
  • Prepares miscellaneous department billings.
  • Transcribes and types letters, memoranda, reports, tabulations, and other materials.
  • Sorts and files correspondence, checks, vouchers, etc., numerically, alphabetically, or by other prescribed methods.
  • Assists in the maintenance of records and files.
  • Assists the Public or other Governmental agencies by checking data records and files for requested information.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Familiar with generally accepted accounting principles and practices and technologies as applied to an accounting environment.
  • Familiar with local government operations, tax law, and financial records management
  • Possesses seasoned problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize simultaneous projects/issues/concerns & to take ownership of work.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and consultative skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate key objectives necessary to achieve organizational goals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be detail oriented and a self-starter.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A minimum of a High School degree or equivalent. Must have a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and strong analytical, oral communication, and writing abilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Possess and Maintain a Valid Driver’s License.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Effectively communicate and present information to all levels of the organization and especially the General Public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Capacity to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.Capability to apply common sense understanding in order to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically in an office setting, but is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. The days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am4:30 pm. Evening, weekend or hours adjustments may be required as job duties demand.
