The Fund for Public Health in New York City, (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers.  To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between the government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.

DOHMH COVID-19 Vaccination Plan Gotham Center, LIC

The mission of the Bureau of Immunization (BOI) is to prevent the occurrence and transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases, such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, influenza, human papillomavirus, and invasive pneumococcal disease, through immunization.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, BOI has implemented a citywide COVID-19 vaccination campaign to reduce the impact of the pandemic on the health care system and the NYC community. As SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, and influenza are expected to co-circulate, support of this year’s citywide flu vaccination campaign will also be part of a comprehensive public health strategy to reduce the overall burden of respiratory illnesses in NYC and to protect at-risk populations (many of which overlap for COVID-19 and influenza), the health care system, and other critical infrastructure.

The COVID-19 and influenza vaccination campaigns are focused on the equitable access to vaccination, ensuring access to the most vulnerable New Yorkers. The NYC Vaccine Finder is an essential, public application, providing up-to-date locations for both COVID-19 and flu vaccination services in NYC.

The Vaccine Finder Operations Specialist will conduct activities critical to the success of the COVID-19 and flu vaccination campaigns. As a member of the BOI Adult Immunization Unit and the COVID-19 Vaccine Section Clinical Planning and Operations Branch, the incumbent will ensure maximum reliability of data posted on the Vaccine Finder and will work to enroll new vaccination providers to the Vaccine Finder. The incumbent will conduct regular review of, and updates to, data and may be asked to provide reports on number and types of sites listed on the Vaccine Finder. Work will include outreach to vaccination providers, internal coordination with Clinical Planning and Operations Branch members and cross-divisional collaboration with the Health Department programs hosting the database and providing oversight of the Vaccine Finder. Additional duties with the BOI and the COVID-19 Vaccine Section Clinical Planning and Operations Branch may arise.

  • Maintain quality of the COVID-19 and flu vaccination location data provided on the NYC Vaccine Finder:
  • Liaise with the health care facilities across NYC and the health care facility teams across BOI and the Health Department to collect and update vaccination location data for all health care facilities listed on the NYC Vaccine Finder (e.g., hospitals, federally qualified health centers, chain pharmacies, independent pharmacies, urgent care centers)
  • Liaise with external agencies as needed to ensure vaccination location data is up to date for all City-sponsored sites on the NYC Vaccine Finder (e.g., City-run points of dispensing, vaccination hubs, pop-ups)
  • Clean and update data in the Health Department database
  • Work with external and internal partners to Identify COVID-19 vaccination locations that also provide flu vaccination services and ensure all sites are listed on the NYC Vaccine Finder to maximize ability of the public to receive both vaccinations in a single visit to a vaccination location
  • Participate in development and implementation of enhancements to the NYC Vaccine Finder to ensure maximum functionality
  • Participate in additional activities of the Vaccine Section as needed
  • Participate in additional activities of the BOI as needed
  • Master of Public Health or Public Administration required
  • Committed to the primary prevention of disease through vaccination
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with maintaining data sets
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented with ability to multi-task and track activities
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing situations and to take initiative
