Job Description and Requirements

Maryland Auto Insurance seeks a professional to assist the claims manager or Material Damage Field Supervisor in overseeing the Material Damage Section and handling material damage claims.

This position requires a thorough knowledge of basic insurance industry policies and procedures as they related to all aspects of material damage claims functions. This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Claims Manager.  The position will directly supervise other employees, which requires the planning, organizing and overseeing work of other personnel.  The successful candidate may be eligible for teleworking. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages overall operations of designated area of authority. Interviews, hires, trains and directs personnel. Prepares and conducts performance assessments, coordinates discipline and oversees Employee development as required.
  • Reviews claim correspondence and provides counsel on further action.
  • Reviews claims in process on a regular basis and takes appropriate follow-up or closing action.
  • Directs salvage disposal, reviews reports, payments and buyers. Negotiates with salvage auctions and salvage yards on behalf of the company.
  • Handles material damage claims complaints and inquiries.
  • Reviews production results and field office procedures with the Material Damage Field Supervisor or Claims Manager to assess adjuster performance and compliance. Implements and monitors related systems and procedures as required.
  • Maintains working knowledge of material damage adjusters' files.
  • Assists in handling the maintenance and disposal of company-owned vehicles.
  • Assists in training branch claims personnel and provides material damage expertise and service to Agents.
  • Acts on behalf of the Material Damage Field Supervisor in the incumbent's absence.
  • Helps track, compile and report on Material Damage Unit metrics.

High school diploma, or equivalent, required. Two to three years of previous experience in an auto body shop, including writing estimates, or equivalent, required. Three years of previous experience in material damage appraisal work, experience as a Claims Supervisor, or equivalent, required. Appropriate license as required by state. Some previous supervisory experience preferred. Valid driver's license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
