Communications Coordinator

The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of the health and well-being of all New Yorkers.  To this end, in partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives implemented by DOHMH to advance community health throughout the city. It facilitates partnerships, often new and unconventional, between government and the private sector to develop, test, and launch new initiatives. These collaborations speed the execution of demonstration projects, effect expansion of successful pilot programs, and support rapid implementation to meet the public health needs of individuals, families, and communities across New York City.

 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

WorkWell NYC (WWNYC), an innovative workplace wellness team servicing over 380,000 City of New York employees, is seeking a dynamic Communications Coordinator to join its communications and marketing team to develop content to increase program visibility and employee engagement in wellness programming.  The Communications Coordinator will work closely with WWNYC program leadership to develop cross-channel content, including print, web and social media collateral that reflects the diversity of the City’s workforce.  The Communications Coordinator will be expected to have strong writing, copy editing and project management experience with the ability to drive multiple projects with accuracy and skill.  The desired candidate will have experience in public health marketing, research communications development.  Candidates that are creative and innovative with the ability to flex with shifting priorities in a team-based decision-making setting will excel in this position.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

WWNYC is seeking a Communications Coordinator to help manage outreach efforts to over 350,000 NYC employees across the city.  There is an extensive amount of work involved in coordinating campaign and outreach efforts, including partnerships with communications staff from other NYC agencies, Unions, and vendors.  The primary focus of this position will serve to increase WWNYC’s brand recognition through the development of print and digital content that reflects programmatic initiatives.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary role of the Communications Coordinator will be to support WWNYC’s citywide programs with communications support that includes:

  • Branding and marketing to increase employee participation in WWNYC’s health promotion initiatives, including web-based content and print materials.
  • Developing scripts for video shorts that promote WWNYC programs or provide instructions for participation
  • Developing innovative strategies to increase program visibility across city agencies
  • Researching and submitting WWNYC programs for journal publication
  • Developing instruction toolkits for WWNYC’s Ambassadors to develop and promote content at the worksite
  • Managing graphics and marketing vendors, including on-time delivery of materials and inclusive content reflecting the City’s diverse workforce
  • Making recommendations for the WWNYC communications strategy
  • Assisting with program event planning, coordination, and outreach
  • Manage WWNYC list serve and develop communications collateral for regular distribution.
  • Manage social media content, including postings, web content, and other digital technologies as they emerge.
Qualifications

In addition, the Communications Coordinator will:

  • Possess exemplary writing, editing and project management skills
  • Develop materials that and speak to a wide range of educational levels and job functions
  • Co-develop marketing and campaign themes with Program staff and external vendors
  • Have the ability to work some non-traditional hours with advanced notice
  • Demonstrated capacity for critical, independent, and creative thinking
  • Strong project and time management skills, verbal skills and organizational skills
  • Develop and monitor segmented messaging to key audiences, for relevance and consistency with overall messaging
  • Be willing to travel to various NYC worksites for the purposes of tracking and documenting program experience and participant engagement

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred
  • Min 2 years of communications experience in large municipalities
  • Knowledge of labor relations, public health, union engagement and/or workplace wellness initiatives
  • Knowledge of behavioral science approach to communications/marketing
  • The ability to work urgent deadlines and high-priority tasks
  • Ability to provide strategic counsel and effectively collaborate to drive outcomes
  • Proven track record as a self-starter
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and other layout and design software systems (ie- Adobe In-design, Canva, etc.)
  • Advanced experience with social media tools, including listserv management and video editing capability
  • Relevant experience with advocacy or community outreach
  • Interest in health and wellness

FPHNYC offers a comprehensive benefits package. The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

There is potential for this position to transition to the Office of Labor Relations and therefore candidates must meet the Office of Labor Relations eligibility requirement including NYC residency.
