Company Summary: Aeglea is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that engineers next-generation human enzymes with enhanced properties and novel activity to provide solutions for diseases with unmet medical need. Aeglea is developing pegzilarginase, its lead product candidate, for the treatment of Arginase 1 Deficiency which has received both Rare Pediatric Disease and Breakthrough Therapy Designation. Aeglea has two programs in IND-enabling studies for Homocystinuria and Cystinuria and an active discovery pipeline.

 

Position Summary: Aeglea BioTherapeutics, based in Austin Texas, is recruiting for a Vice President, Market Access and Channel Strategy. This individual is responsible for providing strategic leadership for all product distribution, pricing, reimbursement and access (PRA) activities for Aeglea’s pipeline and commercial products; delivering and executing against strategic PRA-related insights for launch planning activities; and ensuring seamless collaboration with cross-functional groups including patient services, marketing, sales, HEOR, analytics, finance, and medical affairs teams.  This position will build and lead a high-performing Market Access and Distribution team that provides solutions to ensure that appropriate patients have access to Aeglea’s approved therapies. As a member of the commercial leadership team, this position will work across the organization to ensure that market access and distribution efforts are aligned with corporate and project-level deliverables.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following:

  • Lead the development and implementation of Aeglea’s channel distribution strategy including management of 3PL, specialty distributors, specialty pharmacies with a high level of collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders including patient services
  • Develop PRA strategies consistent with the product’s overall value proposition to ensure patient access to therapy and long-term commercial success
  • Play a leadership role in forecasting and managing key variables related to product-level gross-to-net calculations
  • Collaborate with Medical Affairs and HEOR to ensure the creation and communication of disease state and product information that establishes a compelling value proposition to key market access stakeholders and partners
  • Guide and shape strategic PRA decisions through a combination of insights from previous experience, market research, product analogs, and secondary data sources
  • Develop and assess metrics and key performance indicators to ensure success of market access strategy and activities
  • Build and lead a highly experienced Market Access team while overseeing the execution of multiple strategies to attain strategic objectives in all areas of market access
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets that effectively achieve desired commercial goals while balancing the financial objectives of the overall organization
  • Oversee the coordination and success of key external vendors and agencies to ensure project success
  • Partner with internal program leadership teams and corporate development to evaluate PRA strategies for internal pipeline programs and external partnership opportunities
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures as well as all relevant healthcare laws and regulations
Qualifications

Education/Experience: The ideal candidate will offer:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, scientific degree or other advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in managed markets roles in account management, formulary access, contract negotiations and policy development
  • 7+ years national and regional direct account management or oversight across multiple payer types

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Technical Expertise

  • An advanced understanding of the drug development process
  • Leading edge knowledge of the principles, concepts, practices, and theories of payer strategies across all applicable segments including commercial, Medicare Part B&D, Medicaid, and Federal systems (VA, DOD) and Commercial activities. Along with advanced knowledge of the principles and concepts of other cross-functional disciplines
  • Advanced knowledge of reimbursement and strong understanding of health insurance and benefits, co-pay assistance programs, Medicare, Medicaid, and private payer policies
  • Breadth and depth of experience managing the Market Access responsibilities associated with managing a portfolio of complex programs
  • Ability to apply technical and line knowledge to plan/design and manage projects within a matrix team dynamic
  • Strong analytical skills, project/launch planning, and organizational skills
  • Strong understanding of legal, compliance, and regulatory environment in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong understanding of key HEOR principles and evidence dossier

Work Environment

This is a high growth, fast paced, and small organization. The ability to be productive and successful in a scientifically led and data driven work environment is critical. Willingness and ability to travel domestically, and internationally on occasion may be required, up to 50% of work time.
