The Chief Marketing Officer is responsible for creating an overarching strategic umbrella that includes innovative marketing strategies that will build our brand and clearly convey our impact, leading to increased awareness, positive perceptions, attitudes, and relevance, as well as increased fundraising revenue among our target audience. Our ideal candidate possesses superior communication, relationship-building and leadership skills, with proven success in traditional and innovative campaigns across the broad spectrum of today's marketing channels. We are looking for a groundbreaking leader with strategic, creative, and financial acumen as well as a strong business intellect and relationship-building skills to build our stakeholder base, campaign, and community impact.

The CMO will work directly with the CEO and will work collaboratively with the other members of United Ways senior leadership team to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy that helps to achieve organization-wide goals. The CMO is the shaper and keeper of organizational messaging and public image, with the ability to convey in writing across channels. The CMO will need to collaborate and build strong relationships with the Board, corporate and community leaders, as well as oversee, manage, and mentor communications staff and contractors.

Essential Functions

  • Design, develop, manage, and continually optimize a comprehensive long- and short-term marketing plan that sets clear and measurable goals and metrics, including specific programmatic and financial outcomes;
  • Structure and build communications support team, determining the right balance of paid staff (within budget constraints) and contracted support. Lead and mentor the team.
  • Create the brand standard for United Way, manage the brand messaging and oversee the 360-implementation of the brand across the organization and its external relationships;
  • Oversee public relations, advertising and all communications;
  • Provide critical communications leadership and support for UWSWPAs 100th anniversary campaign and celebration.
  • Develop and maintain marketing relationships with Board of Directors and corporate leaders representing United Ways top corporate partners;
  • Evaluate opportunities and implement strategies for brand partnerships;
  • Establish an engaging and user-friendly web presence and CRM that drives donations to support aggressive fundraising and awareness growth goals;
  • Assess the ROI of all marketing activities regularly, making changes or implementing new ideas where necessary to increase value;
  • Lead efforts to create effective social media presence that empowers stakeholders to spread the United Ways messages virally;
  • Partner closely with all departments across the organization to ensure integration of brand messaging and marketing;
  • Lead United Way Forward projects that involve the testing of marketing strategies for campaign and impact strategic projects.;

People Management Responsibilities

  • Direct reports: Currently, 1 manager; no indirect reports
  • Directs external vendors as needed, including design, PR, social media, video production, photography and other marketing needs.

Financial/Budgetary Responsibilities

  • Creates and monitors marketing budgets across all departments
  • Solicits and allocates in-kind advertising dollars

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Required
    • Bachelors degree required
    • More than 8 years of diverse marketing experience with a track record of success, illustrated by overcoming significant challenges
    • Significant marketing experience developing and executing successful comprehensive strategic marketing plans that can drive and increase fundraising revenue
    • Demonstrated success with seamlessly blending strong social media and digital experiences into traditional campaigns
    • Demonstrated ability to continually track and assess changing market dynamics, translate them into actionable strategies, and implement them to achieve objectives
    • Proven capacity to liaison with and maintain productive relationships with high-level counterparts at sophisticated "next generation" and traditional corporations as our partners in our campaign and impact work
    • Experience overseeing and directing a team of smart, passionate, and high energy individuals
    • Success working with teams to meet deadlines and outcome metrics
    • Track record in creating high-impact, integrated communication plans that build the case for investment in communications in order to gain significant results/ROI

Annual Salary

  • Pay Grade 114
  • Salary Range $119,300 - $135,000
