Join our team as a Lead Paralegal in the Unaccompanied Children's Program! The Lead Paralegal (Unaccompanied Children’s Program) has a leadership role within Cabrini providing case management, creating and implementing training for new and current staff, and mentorship. The Lead Paralegal is responsible for acting as a liaison with Paralegals and the Managing Attorneys, organizing training, materials and templates, holding regular meetings with Paralegal staff, and onboarding and training new staff.

  • You have an Associate Degree, and

  • You have a Paralegal Certificate, or

  • You have a one (1) year of experience as Paralegal in lieu of the certificate

  • You have two (2) years of experience working in non-profit immigration law

  • You are bilingual in Spanish and English

What you Deliver

 

  • You will organize regularly scheduled meetings with Paralegal team members to discuss professional development needs, problem-solve and report back to the Managing Attorney; facilitate training and training materials for Paralegals based on identified needs; work with Senior Attorney in charge of training to organize and provide training to new staff; develop templates and training material; document and update policies and procedures within the program; and mentor Paralegals in the performance of their duties.

  • You will serve as a liaison between Paralegals and the Managing Attorneys overseeing the program. Coordinate with Lead Paralegals to improve and manage case management systems for referrals, case assignments, and closing and retiring cases. Provide administrative support to the Managing Attorneys.

  • You will assist attorneys and Accredited Representatives in scheduling and conducting client meetings; preparing client case files; collecting, compiling and organizing supporting documents for client cases; translating documents between Spanish and English; and under the directions of the attorneys and/or Accredited Representatives, draft, prepare and file correspondence and pleadings, prepare and file applications for relief for clients, assist in preparing clients for court hearing and USCIS interviews, perform interpretations at USCIS, asylum office, and other interviews.

  • You will maintain case information on case management systems (such as LLX, attorney spreadsheets, and Caspio), update attorney calendars on cases, maintain, organize and update case files of clients. Perform case management tasks on clients’ cases and records, including file progress notes, correspondence, calendars, and dockets. Maintain case management database, generate statistical report, correct data entry to provide an accurate database on client information, case processes and caseload information.

  • You will organize and hold regular meetings with legal support staff, attend and participate in UC team meetings, Cabrini staff meetings, and other agency meetings. Participate in calls and meetings organized by funders, city-wide advocacy groups, and local service providers when appropriate and helpful.

  • You will comply with all contract requirements. Provide data and statistical information for grant, contract and other reporting purposes. Provide accurate and timely monthly data, time logs, and reports for internal use, funder use, and other entity use. Participate in trainings, webinars, meetings, calls, etc. as required by funders.

  • You will participate in community outreach and legal education activities, including Charla and other community events, prepare community legal education materials on immigration issues.

  • You will perform other duties as assigned by the Legal Director and Managing Attorneys such as assisting with in house meetings and trainings, coordinate with community partners, engage in coalition activities, participate in staff and agency retreats, assist with special events.
