The UOLF Data Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the organizations’ data analytics pipeline / data strategy and the implementation of Business Intelligence Best Practices (DataOps). The UOLF Data Specialist will report to the Director of IT and work closely with the Technology Steering Committee (TSC), and will be a champion of the UOLF Data and Applications landscape that orchestrates the data analytics strategy to support the organizational mission and goals leveraging UOLF data.  

Key Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Document and enforce data strategies, policies and practices with IT Leadership and Business Owners; 
  • Implement existing Business Intelligence Dashboards for the organization, and design new reports and dashboards with IT leadership and Business Owners that represent the KPI’s for the business needs; 
  • Work with UOLF Applications to configure and maintain the applications to ensure an accurate and complete data pipeline;  
  • Develop Ad-Hoc and customized reports as needed for the Business Owners and key stakeholders; 
  • Work with stakeholders to identify opportunities for leveraging the data pipeline; 
  • Clean existing data to ensure the integrity of data across the Applications Landscape and integrate data (manually when necessary) to do so;  
  • Produce documentation and training for applications, reports and dashboards to provide the maximum value of UOLF data in reaching core missions and long-term goals;  
  • Understand and stay up-to-date on the latest Business Intelligence and Data Visualization trends, tools and techniques;  
  • Provide recommendations to TSC on the adoption and implementation of statistical analysis and data visualization platforms;
  • Reporting and presentation, to the TSC and other interested parties, on the state and progress of the overall UOLF Data Strategy;
  • Ensure all company data policies/procedures are followed; and
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Essential Skills 

  • A bachelor's degree in data / computer science or related experience with technology tools; 
  • Experience with Business Intelligence and Data Analytics platforms;  
  • Source control management configuration and implementation,
  • The ability to analyze and map business scenarios, create use cases, and apply information to a data strategy;  
  • Experience and comfort with complex data environments and associated technology; 
  • Commitment to solving complex data problems, and willingness to champion the best fit solution; 
  • Report writing and skills in managing documentation,
  • Hands-on skills to personally resolve data integrity issues and provide clean, comprehensive data to the business owners in a timely fashion; 
  • Advanced understanding of SQL, Python and R programming languages;
  • Passion for growing the Utah Olympic Legacy and Utah Winter Sports participation by providing the tools that drive the staff to meet core missions and long-term goals;
  • Ability to create meaningful documentation and training curricula, providing business owners the ability to maximize the value from the data;  
  • Superior communications skills; 
  • Established attention to detail; and
  • A proven team player 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Flexible work schedule – must be available to work days, weekends and holidays 

Environmental Job Requirements 

  • Ability to work outdoors in all temperature/weather extremes 


Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds 
  • Must be able to sit or stand on feet for extended time 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
