Description

Under t­­he direction of the Property Coordinator, the Facility Assistant is responsible for general upkeep and repairs of facilities, grounds, systems, and vehicles. Dates of seasonal employment: April - September.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

All employees have the following expectations:

  • Perform quality work within given deadlines and expectations with or without direct supervision
  • Interact professionally with other employees, members, program participants, volunteers, and other individuals within the community, always being mindful of the YMCA’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
  • Serve effectively as a team contributor on all assignments
  • Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other appropriate individuals

Other responsibilities include:

  • General upkeep of the grounds ensuring that litter, toys, equipment, and debris is free from sight and properly stored.
  • Perform specific projects outside the facility that may include painting, construction of fencing/small buildings/tables/signs/etc., tree removal and chipping, lawn maintenance, sweeping, washing, digging, and shoveling.
  • Assist bus drivers and property staff with the upkeep of vehicles including washing, sweeping, vacuuming, disinfecting, and performing regular pre and post-trip maintenance.
  • Assist with specific projects inside the facility that may include ­small construction, painting, repairs, sweeping, washing, set-up and break-down of rooms/tables/chairs, bathroom and kitchen maintenance.
  • Assist with identifying and resolving risk management issues.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records and share appropriately with Risk Management, Corporate, and Executive as needed.
  • Assist Staff with projects as assigned by the Executive Director and Property Coordinator.

 

Effect on End Result: YMCA Camp Watia will be a well-maintained and safe facility for children, families, and staff to enjoy throughout the year. Upgrades to facilities/grounds/vehicles will be completed in a timely manner and to the satisfaction of the Executive Director

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Previous experience working in the maintenance, construction, landscaping, or related field is a plus.
  • Prefer candidate with broad experience in carpentry, finish carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, HVAC, landscaping, and minor vehicle repair.

  • Lift equipment (up to 150lbs)
  • Must be able to stand, sit, crawl, jump, swim, speak, listen, observe, and supervise for extended time
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Communicate verbally with good voice projection, hear noises and distress signals
  • Must be able to comprehend, communicate, and respond to written and verbal instructions.

Supervisory Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with the supervision on contracted services, including but not limited to cleaning staff, vehicle maintenance, lawn services, etc.

  • Communicate and demonstrate the Mission of the YMCA, our Cause, and become a role model for newer staff while demonstrating the Four Core Values of Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Honesty.
  • Create “wow factor” at facilities to improve simple issues so that noticeable change is evident and return on investment is not questioned.

Desired Long-Term Goals/Expectations

  • Continue to develop and maintain a schedule of maintenance and repairs on facilities to create what looks to be a “well-oiled machine” showing care and concern for ongoing maintenance and a deep commitment to improving the quality of programs through the change and construction of facilities to better suit the needs of our growing population.
