Position Summary
Portal, inc seeking a compassionate and creative Art Teacher to lead engaging and inclusive art classes for adults with disabilities along with other community members for an inclusive art experience.  Class may be offered to adults of all ages, including senior citizens, and young adults (18-24). The ideal candidate will have a passion for art and a commitment to fostering creativity, self-expression, and skill development in a supportive and adaptive environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Art Studio Instruction: Develop and deliver art lessons tailored to meet the diverse abilities, interests, and needs of adult participants.
    • Utilize Glass Fusing area
    • Utilize Art Room area
  • Program Development: Design an annual budget, project and a curriculum that includes various artistic techniques, mediums, and projects, promoting both individual and group participation.  Upcycle and recycle projects & materials are encouraged.
  • Adaptation and Accessibility: Modify art activities to ensure accessibility for participants with different physical, cognitive, and emotional needs.
  • Encouragement and Support: Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere where participants feel encouraged to express themselves and explore their creativity.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with support staff, caregivers, and other team members to provide a cohesive experience for participants.
  • Materials Management: Manage art supplies, maintain an organized workspace, and ensure proper use and storage of materials.  Safe use of materials is to be practiced and encouraged.
  • Evaluation and Feedback: Assess participant progress and provide constructive feedback to help them achieve their artistic and personal goals.
  • Showcase and Events: Plan and coordinate exhibitions or events to showcase participants' artwork and celebrate their talents and achievements.
  • Creating Opportunities: Art sales along with take home projects for participants. 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience:
    • Prior experience teaching art, particularly with individuals with disabilities, is strongly preferred.
    • Knowledge of adaptive art techniques and tools is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong artistic and creative skills across various mediums (e.g., painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.).
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to inclusion.
    • Ability to adapt lesson plans to suit varying skill levels and needs.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to set up and clean art spaces and assist participants with hands-on activities as needed.
