POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Program Supervisor is accountable for assisting in the day to day operation of the Downtown Early Learning Center for children ages 1 month through 5 years of age and Child Watch. Promotes and delivers programming that supports Y policies, procedures and standards under the direct supervision of the Director of Early Learning. Creating an environment that inspires the social, emotional and cognitive development of the children in the center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Supervision:

  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training and managing diverse staff necessary to operate the center to Y program and DCYF Licensing Standards and based on program enrollment needs
  • Assist in coordinating and maintaining staff development and trainings
  • Allow for accessibility for all staff
  • Help maintain updated staff files and assure that all staff meet annual training requirements as outlined by DCYF
  • Support staff with curriculum development that meets the social, emotional and developmental needs of all children
  • Implements YMCA HEPA standards into all programs

Administrative Duties:

  • Take responsibly of program management when the Center Director is absent
  • Represent the Y at community events and meetings as agreed upon with the Center Director and Director of Family Enrichment
  • Maximize program enrollment and growth with willingness to create new programs
  • Attend all administration meetings and trainings
  • Interface with Y administrative staff in a positive manner
  • Maintain paperwork for currently enrolled children and assist parents with initial enrollment process
  • Assistant the Center Director as delegated with office coverage: answering phones, returning messages, being available for staff, and registering parents.
  • Attend classes and support staff to learn and implement new methods of quality enhancing programs (e.g. Early Achievers, HEPA, Creative Curriculum, David Mattison) as assigned by Center Director and Director of Family Enrichment.
  • Provide leadership for annual fund raising campaign and Program committees as assigned

General Duties:

  • Assist in maintaining DCYF Minimum Licensing Standards to the best of the ability of the organization
  • Assist with scheduling and providing new parent tours and orientations as needed
  • Assist in the creation of new opportunities for parent and family involvement and activities
  • Assist in continually reviewing, evaluating and modifying programs as necessary
  • Report any cleanliness and maintenance issues related to the facility to the Center Director.
  • Plan and assist on field trips
  • Maintain current and informative staff and parent information boards
  • Assist with addressing classroom concerns as delegated by Center Director
  • Interact positively with parents and refer questions and concerns to the Center Director
  • Work in ratio in classrooms or kitchen when needed.
  • Follow organizations policies and procedures regarding protecting youth from abuse; including screening and selection, training and supervision, and responding to allegations. Communicate to all staff and volunteers the organizations commitment to protect youth from abuse.
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. AA in relevant field or a minimum of 45 ECE credits.
  2. Minimum two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs.
  3. Minimum age of 21 years or older.
  4. Must be willing to obtain upon hire: Current Adult/Pediatric CPR & First Aid certification, Blood Borne Pathogens Training, negative TB test, WA State Food Handlers Training Card, clear criminal history and background check, and STARS 30-hour child development training. The YMCA will pay for all trainings as long as employees remain employed for at least six months.
  5. Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards (if any) and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.
  6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
