Job Summary:

Incumbent cleans the interiors of centers including classrooms, cafeterias, libraries, restrooms, offices, halls, other public areas as well as cleaning and re-supplying building restrooms on a regularly scheduled basis.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:

  • Perform floor work that includes, but is not limited to, buffing, stripping wax, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and cleaning carpets.
  • Routinely pick up and dispose of trash within the center and on the grounds.
  • Perform routine tasks like changing light bulbs, general repairs, cleaning water fountains etc.
  • Clean classrooms and other areas of the Head Start Center.
  • Clean glass doors & windows as needed.
  • Keep restrooms in clean, orderly and sanitary condition.  Sweep, scrub, and wax floors, clean, disinfect, and deodorize lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls. Clean mirrors, sinks, and water fountains. Replace deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap.
  • Complete inspections of the playground and building on a weekly basis. Note condition of the building through reports to supervisor.
  • Dust and clean window sills, banisters and accessible cabinets.
  • Lock and unlock building doors & playground gates.
  • Perform room set-up and break down for meetings.
  • Maintain an inventory of janitorial supplies.
  • Keep stock of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do the work.
  • Inform supervisor when materials are needed or when equipment is in need of repair or replacement.
  • Maintain the grounds (including playground) around the center by picking up and disposing of all litter, glass, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum six (6) months of experience required
  • High school diploma/General Education Degree (GED) preferred
  • Must be able to write legibly for required recordkeeping
  • Must pass reading assessment

 

Essential Mental Functions:

Ability to use dry mops, powered scrubbers and buffers.

  • Knowledge of measuring and using cleaning supplies and tools.

 

Essential Physical Functions:
Incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.  Occasionally required to stand, climb, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Regularly lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
