Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for utilizing accounting principles including work that is analytical, evaluative, and advisory in nature that requires an understanding of both accounting theory and practice in relation to CrescentCare’s diversified income and expenses related to grants, patient visits, 340B pharmaceutical transactions, donations, and other organizational activities. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial accounting operations of the organization ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position oversees the payroll, accounts payable and grant billing functions. The Controller is an integral member of the finance department leadership team and works closely with the CFO in implementation of financial strategies and goals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working with the CFO and Accounting Manager to ensure a timely and accurate month end close.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of the monthly financial statements.
  • Responsible for overseeing the payroll function ensuring accurate recording of payroll activity including benefit reporting and reconciliations.
  • Responsible for overseeing the grant invoicing/billing function, and time and effort certifications.
  • Responsible for grant management including budgets, forecasting, and monitoring.
  • Responsible for overseeing the accounts payable function.
  • Responsible for the monthly reconciliation and management of the 340B Pharmaceutical program and related program income.
  • Responsible for ensuring the financial policies, procedures and internal controls are following generally accepted accounting principles and as applicable, the latest, guidance as issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Prepares the agency’s financial reports including but not limited to Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Operations, Statement of Cash Flows and related foot notes.
  • Oversees the timely preparation and distribution of the department financial reports.
  • Ensures the grant drawdowns and invoices are prepared in accordance with the grant guidelines and submitted accurately and timely.
  • Manages the invoicing, budget, and expense reconciliation for the City of New Orleans Ryan White A grant.
  • Processes the monthly drawdown in the Federal Payment Management System.
  • Oversees the timely completion of tasks in Governmental websites (EHB, eRA Commons, Grant Solutions, Grants.gov)
  • Contributes to the development of the financial management policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Assists the CFO and Accounting Manager in the annual budget planning and development.
  • Leads the preparation of materials for the organizational audits (financial and 401(k)) and 990 tax return.
  • Leads the hiring, training, and management of a highly efficient, competent, and committed finance team of staff.
  • Actively participates in and assist with the general and daily accounting work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field required.
  • Certified Public Accountant CPA preferred.
  • Three years’ experience as a Controller or Auditor required.
  • Seven years of management or leadership experience required.
  • Experience working in health care or non-profits preferred.
