Founded in 1947 by Nina Vance, the Alley Theatre is a pioneer of regional theatre, and one of the leading nonprofit theatre companies in the United States. Rob Melrose, Artistic Director at the Alley, took over as artistic leader of the organization in 2019. His vision for the future of the Alley is both thrilling and ambitious as the Theatre nears its 75th anniversary in 2021-22. When the Theatre reopens, his strategic goals include upholding the Alley’s artistic excellence, keeping longtime Alley Theatre devotees eager to return each season, and creating productions and cultivating new audiences that are as diverse and vibrant as the city of Houston.

SALARY: $18.50/HR  Minimum


The Operations Assistant works closely with the Operations Manager handling the day-to-day operations of the Alley Theatre. The Alley owns its own production facility, which includes a five-story state-of-the-art Center for Theatre Production, the 774-seat Hubbard Stage and the 290-seat Neuhaus Stage. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager.



  • Complete and submit necessary supply orders including but not limited to office supplies and cleaning supplies.
  • Process purchase orders and receipts accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with maintaining housekeeping schedules and special instructions.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with creating building schedules within Kastle security system for regular and event operations.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with monitoring and maintaining the Alley’s security camera system.
  • Manage office supply memberships including but not limited to Amazon, Costco, Sam’s Club, and Staples.     
  • Assist the Operations Manager with maintaining the 18th floor including the mailroom, office supplies, and kitchen.
  • Assist Reception with processing and sorting mail when necessary
  • Order and maintain office furniture as necessary.
  • Manage office supply memberships including but not limited to Amazon, Costco, Sam’s Club, and Staples.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with internal and external events.
  • Assist Operations Manager with distributing badges, parking and Kastle cards, and keys for Alley staff members.
  • Cover for Receptionist when necessary.
  • Complete other tasks and projects as assigned.




  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in written form

  • A demonstrated ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Theatrical production experience a plus, but not required
  • Proficiency in Spanish language preferred
