Callen-Lorde is seeking a Director of Nursing (DON) for our Manhattan (Chelsea) location. The DON Chelsea, under the direction of the Managing Director of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer, assumes the authority, responsibility, and accountability for the provision of nursing care at Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, Chelsea. The DON Chelsea provides clinical and operational leadership to the Nursing Administration team and collaborate with organizational leadership to ensure that patients receive quality, sensitive, comprehensive, and coordinated care throughout all areas of Callen-Lorde CHC, Chelsea, promoting wellness, and preventive health services.

A few general responsibilities are: 

• Oversees the systems of recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation, and performance-based remediation of staff and volunteer Nursing staff at the Chelsea location with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Staff include the Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Medical Assistants (MAs), Pharmacy Technicians, and all other Nursing Department staff.
• Responsible for provision of quality, sensitive nursing care to Callen-Lorde patients, including; on-site triage for urgent care, health education, Nursing Prevention and Outreach, Medication Support, patients establishing HIV care, medication administration, laboratory, and performance of in-house diagnostic testing, in coordination with medical providers; and documentation of all services mentioned above.
• Responsible for provision of response to patient complaints related to Nursing care at Chelsea site.
• Provide leadership and participation in clinical quality improvement initiatives in coordination with the Quality Management team.
• The DON Chelsea, will continuously evaluate the process flow of the Chelsea clinic and suggest changes with their supervisor to ensure the department is operating at an optimal level.

• The DON Chelsea, will write evaluations and reviews for direct reports including site-specific Nursing Administration

• Current and valid New York State Registered Nurse License.
• Current BCLS certification.
• Three years’ experience in an outpatient clinical setting preferred.
• Experience serving Callen-Lorde’s target populations preferred.
• Experience managing diverse teams of medical professionals preferred.
