Description

The Pottery Assistant is responsible for providing finishing assistance in the completing the pottery process by performing a variety of duties.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Dips bisque pottery into glaze buckets
  • Trims edges of the pottery removing the spoil with sponges and hand tools
  • Loads and unloads kiln
  • Produces tableware using a hydraulic press
  • Washes the base of the pottery to avoid sticking in the kiln firing
  • Record keeping of pieces you have produced
  • Looks at their work to assure the Simon Pearce quality standards are upheld
  • job duties within the production standards for quality and quantity
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or the equivalent or one to three months related experience
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memo
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

Qualifications Desired:

While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.   The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  

 

Other:

  • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
