The Windward School is actively seeking a School Nurses for the summer program in the Manhattan campus. The position would start the last week of June and go through the end of July 2025. The Summer School Nurse will work closely with the Director of the Summer Program and is an integral person in supporting the physical, mental, emotional, and social climate for all summer school students and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The School Nurse will handle student Health Services by providing professional nursing services in accordance with the NYS (New York State) Licensing Board and the NYS Nurse Practice Act.
  • The nurse will act as advocate, liaison, and consultant on health-related issues for students, families, and school personnel.
  • Administer first aid, emergency care and preventive care to students and staff.
  • Dispense medications if necessary.
  • Maintain current pertinent health data for each student including NY State mandated immunization and communicable disease control requirements.
  • Initiate and document health surveillance programs as needed and record, compile and report data as required by NYS and NYC Departments of Health.
  • Find and assess student health needs, implementing services and evaluating plans of care to boost student learning and achieve optimum safety.
  • Act as liaison between home, school, and community providers for medical issues, discussing with administration when proper.
  • Find and report building safety or environmental issues which may affect student or staff health to the Campus Head.
  • Promote an environment that is positive, student-centered, and differentiated to meet the needs of all learners.

Qualifications

Specific Requirements

  • New York State licensed Registered Nurse with a minimum of three years nursing experience in a school, pediatric, or emergency room setting to staff the health office.
  • The candidate must have a clear ability to work on several tasks simultaneously and have good judgement, tact, and flexibility.
  • Current CPR certification and computer skills are also necessary.
