Walton Arts Center Inc. operates two campuses: a 1,200-seat proscenium theatre and 269-seat black box in Fayetteville and an 11,000-capacity outdoor Amphitheatre known as the Walmart AMP in Rogers, AR. Position Overview

The Public Relations Specialist will oversee publication copy writing and editing and project management, direct organizational community relations initiatives and provide other support to the communications team.

Principal Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Research events and performances in order to write curtain speeches, blog articles, news releases, guidebook copy and monthly articles for local magazines
  • Track and report on blog views and develop a strategy in coordination with digital team and social media coordinator to increase blog readership
  • Write, edit and project manage the production of OnStage twice yearly, the guidebook annually, and the creation and printing of event programs
  • Manage show materials library and assist with gathering show information as needed
  • Lead interdepartmental community outreach committee and coordinate off-site events including First Thursdays, First Fridays and other expos and speaking opportunities with community service organizations (Lion’s Clubs, Optimist Clubs, etc)
  • Work with Communications Team to coordinate event staffing, materials and set up for booths with a strong focus on community engagement and marketing/sales
  • Research new events or opportunities in the community to build branding/awareness with booths or other participation
  • Assist with advanced and in-town artist/show publicity for WAC or AMP events
  • Represent Walton Arts Center / Walmart AMP at both on and off-site events, as needed
  • Maintain collaborative and professional working relationships with teammates, fellow staff members from other departments, vendors, patrons, clients, and tenants of leased spaces
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Maintain security and safety requirements as defined by operations guidelines
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor for which the employee is qualified and physically able to perform with reasonable accommodations

Education, Training, Traits

  • Bachelor’s degree preferable in English, Marketing, Arts Administration, or Journalism equivalent experience in the field, and/or appropriate transferrable skills
  • Proficient in Associated Press Style, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint 
  • Must submit writing samples and/or a full portfolio for review upon request
  • Bilingual language skills a plus but not required
  • Comfortable with consistently adhering to the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality
  • An on-going desire to learn and improve
  • Able to make decisions in a fast-paced work environment
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Strong communications skills and the ability to interact with many different types of people

Work Experience

  • 1-3 years of professional experience (internships and work study will be considered)
