Description

Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission is currently looking for a Prospecting Officer to join the Development team in Seattle, WA.

 

Seattle's Union Gospel Mission is a private faith-based organization that helps the community to reach out with compassion to those who have lost hope. And as a community, we empower one another to build, lead and give back.

 

The Prospecting Officer takes a data perspective as it relates to overall team portfolio management including how do we use data to streamline communications, grow the current donor base, and reactivating lapsed donors. This includes how data supports mid-level giving, major gifts and mega gifts channels and pipeline development.

 

This includes a great deal of interdepartmental collaboration. This role will work closely with the CDO to establish what information SUGM wants to learn about their donors including systems and processes to maintain, find and steward this information.

 

This role includes prospecting, research and the ability to advocate around data architecture and integration role for the Development team with other departments, specifically the Mission information technology and database teams.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Create and maintain manual and automated system integration between Mission database systems. Specifically, around overlap between major donor relationships, volunteers and businesses.
  2. Individual portfolio research of top donors giving priority to mega level relationships. This could include prospect reports or other donor information.
  3. Setting up and manage an ongoing process to screen donors and volunteers.
  4. Support a monthly “handoff” meeting focused on pipeline development and prospecting.
  5. Support inter department data collaborations between Development, Volunteer Engagement and other Mission departments.
  6. Review portfolios within the development team. This could include assigning new names to portfolios, recommending future approaches for modifying portfolios, etc.
  7. Maintain an understanding of Mission programs as a means to facilitate donor development and increase giving.
  8. Provide guidance and advice on data best practice as it relates to fundraising.
  9. Any other job-related duties as directed by supervisor.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. The successful candidate will have an active church/prayer life and demonstrate a strong desire to serve the Mission by ministering to those whom it serves.

  6. Experience understanding and evaluating data to identify giving trends and make recommendations on strategic approach. This could include regression analysis.
  7. Ability to create reports and interpret user data needs and translate this into query terms that match expectations.
  8. Ability to organize information with database design and architecture in mind.
  9. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required.
  10. Excellent writing, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required.
  11. Ability to exercise initiative, judgment and decision-making in meeting objectives required. 
  12. Ability to successfully manage multiple responsibilities at one time required.
  13. Ability to partner across an organization required.
  14. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information required.

Education

College degree or equivalent years of experience.

 

Experience

15 years of database and data analytics; and least 5 years within a fundraising program

Work experience in multiple relational databases is required

Familiarly with SQL, MS Access and Excel experience is required

Work experience in a non-profit setting strongly preferred
