Job Purpose:  Provide and maintain medical and humane care to wildlife undergoing rehabilitation under the state and federal permit.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Essential Functions:

• Provide daily care to a variety of wildlife that may include medical procedures and medications.
• Drive transport vehicle to retrieve sick or injured animals as a needed.
• Maintain communication with volunteers and supervisor during pick up process.
• Maintain vehicle and equipment in good mechanical, sanitary and safe conditions.
• Prepare reports and receipts per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Clean cages, kennels and offices as schedule requires.
• Provide friendly, responsive and personalized customer service.
• Keep accurate and updated records and enter data as required into appropriate shelter software.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Participate in required meetings and trainings.
• Professionally represent SPCA Tampa Bay at all times.

Nonessential Functions:

• All other duties as assigned.

Education: 

• 2 years of college and a minimum of 5 years of driving experience.
• Proficient in spelling, arithmetic with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

Experience:

• One year of animal handling experience.  Prior work experience to that demonstrates the ability to set priorities and work with minimal supervision.

Licensure or Certification:

• Valid Florida driver’s license with clean driving record.

• Legible handwriting.

• Possess a genuine concern for all animals and their welfare.
• Working knowledge of animal-related terminology.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Pet Point.

Physical Demands:

• Moderate physical effort – regularly lifting or moving up to 75 pounds.
• Walking and prolonged standing.
• Stooping, kneeling, bending and crouching.
• Carrying, pushing and/or pulling.

• Facility operations include areas of high noise levels.
• Exposure to animal feces, dust bites and potential for scratches and bites.
• Activities require the handling and transporting of SPCA pets of all sizes.
• Ability to work flexible hours.
• Ability to drive an ambulance.
