Description

Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission is currently looking for a Street Outreach Lead to join the Outreach team in Seattle, WA.

 

Seattle's Union Gospel Mission is a private faith-based organization that helps the community to reach out with compassion to those who have lost hope. And as a community, we empower one another to build, lead and give back.

 

The Street Outreach Lead supports the Outreach Team’s efforts to end homelessness by providing street outreach efforts that addresses, poverty, addiction, employment, housing, mental health and spirituality.

 

Our Outreach team is looking for its newest member and we think that could be you!

 

Shift Schedule

Monday - Friday from 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM

 

Essential Job Duties

  1. Implement and monitor the goals of the Rapid Response 2nd shift outreach efforts; plan, implement and participate in Outreach efforts to find and minister to unsheltered homeless people in King County.
  2. Schedule and train second shift staff, volunteers and program residents in Outreach efforts as appropriate.
  3. Provide outreach services to ensure the highest-quality services providing tools and support for a safer and honoring environment to include: Overnight shelter, clothing distribution, showers, mail and other outreach services as prescribed. 
  4. Work closely with the Outreach Administrator to establish and implement goals for the Outreach Team.
  5. Build relationships and partnerships with local churches, schools, businesses and communities inviting them to enter into the fight to end homelessness, specifically through the Outreach Team.
  6. Have an understanding and working knowledge of resources directly related to housing and employment in King County.
  7. Inform those we serve of the services available to help them in their present situation. Ensure they have access to information on housing and other options including Men’s and Women’s Recovery Program information.
  8. Schedule routes, establish procedures, and work with Gifts –n-Kind Department to maintain needed supplies for second shift Rapid Response.
  9. Maintain a positive, pleasant, professional Christian attitude. Work with other staff to forge and model transparent and supportive Christian relationships which will serve as a leadership example for recovery program men.
  10. Work with the Outreach Administrator to develop plans to fix any operational issues that are encountered within the second shift Rapid Response team. Initiate communication with the Director of Outreach on any operational or personnel issues that may negatively impact operations.
  11. Provide all outcomes data and reports to Outreach Admiinstrator.
  12. Ensure all staff, volunteers and interns are interacting with those we serve in a grace-based and relationally driven manner.  
  13. Maintain accurate and timely records, and ensure the physical security and maintenance of assigned equipment.
  14. Provide regular input and recommendations to management.
  15. Prepare monthly statistical and narrative reports, as required.
  16. Maintain a positive, pleasant, professional Christian attitude. Work with other staff to forge and model transparent and supportive Christian relationships which will serve as a leadership example for recovery program men.
  17. Work effectively with colleagues throughout the Mission's organization to achieve ministry objectives, maintaining good communication and working relationships
  18. Maintain accurate and timely records of guest interviews and interventions using the professional case note standards of Men’s Ministries Recovery Program Case Managers.
  19. Drive between various ministry locations as needed.
  20. Attend all Mission meetings and training sessions, as required.
  21. Any other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. The successful candidate will have an active church/prayer life and demonstrate a strong desire to serve the Mission by ministering to those whom it serves.
  2. Must agree with Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission Statement of Faith, Mission and Vision Statements and have a personal ethos and work ethic that reflects the Mission’s Core Values.
  3. Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required.

  5. Ability to successfully pass pre-employment drug and criminal background screenings.
  6. Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License and be able to meet the standards of the Mission driver criteria required, including but not limited to:
    1. Clean driving record
    2. No current suspensions or revocations
    3. At least 21 years of age
  7. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook required.
  8. Excellent writing, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required.
  9. Ability to exercise initiative, judgment and decision-making in meeting objectives required. 
  10. Ability to successfully manage multiple responsibilities at one time required.
  11. Ability to manage staff effectively required.
  12. A demonstrated heart of compassion for the poor and broken.

 

 

Education:  Associates degree preferred.

 

ExperiencePrior experience in street outreach and rescue mission context highly preferred.  Previous Supervisory experience preferred.

 

 

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time; bend, stoop or reach.
  2. Ability to be on one’s feet for approximately 25 hours per week.
  3. Ability to work outside for approximately 25 hours per week.
  4. Regularly lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.
  5. Talk on telephone and use computer extensively.
