Full-Time Custodian

The Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority is recruiting for a full-time custodian. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, able to be flexible with work schedule, customer service focused, friendly, and reliable.

 

Our custodial team is responsible for janitorial duties to maintain the airport facilities, outdoor cleanup tasks, minor building maintenance as required, customer service duties, and snow removal. Position will remain open until filled.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION TITLE:      Airport Custodial Specialist

DEPARTMENT:         Airport

FLSA STATUS:         Non-Exempt

SALARY RANGE:    $15.00 - $20.19 hourly

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Performs a variety of cleaning and light maintenance tasks related to area of assignment within the Airport with an emphasis on customer experience.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Performs janitorial duties to maintain the Airport facilities.
  2. Cleans floors and carpeting; washes interior and exterior windows and interior and exterior glass doors; sanitizes all rest rooms; picks up and removes trash; cleans furniture; dusts all surfaces high and low; washes walls and pressure wash sidewalks on a weekly basis.
  3. Performs outdoor cleanup tasks on airport property including vehicle parking areas; right-of-way on airport roads, terminal and building grounds.
  4. Performs minor building maintenance as required.
  5. Provides customer service duties such as answering questions, giving directions, and planning work around busy times to improve the customer experience.
  6. Remove snow from sidewalks; sand walks when icy conditions occur; monitor icy and unsafe road condition at the terminal and reports conditions to supervisor; and sweep walks after storms.
  7. Performs all other works as required.

 

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Mandatory Requirements:

One (1) year of experience in custodian work, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job. Knowledge of supplies, materials, and equipment used in custodial maintenance. Knowledge of practices and methods in custodial maintenance.

Background Check: Employment with the Airport is contingent upon an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration.
 

Special Requirements/Licenses:

  1. Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Education:

  1. High school diploma or GED desirable. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Work is performed individually or as part of a work team often without direct supervision after assignment of duties.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is not a supervisory position. Employee may assist in direction, guidance or training in operational procedures to other employees.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Hand power tools, heavy custodian floor maintenance equipment, paint equipment, mobile radio. Also backpack blowers, and pressure washers will be used.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, in high and precarious places and frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, except during certain maintenance duties when noise levels may be loud.

Employees in this position are required to work in areas or around equipment which may meet or exceed the OSHA Hearing Conservation sound level.

This position requires shift work to include daytime work, nighttime work, weekends, and holidays as assigned to meet the needs of the airport.
