This position will be responsible for leading Market and Customer Insights at ECRI. As the leader of this function, he/she will be responsible for curating intelligence on the market and competitors and delivering timely, actionable insights to support ECRI’s growth initiatives. The candidate with work closely with internal business stakeholders and the portfolio marketing team to identify the most important competitive challenges and help develop and execute on effective ways to address these challenges. This role is also responsible for customer insights and voice of the customer initiatives based on the strategic direction of the organization.   These customer insights will be used to help the business managers develop product and service roadmaps, and it will assist portfolio marketers to create compelling and differentiated value propositions.

Essential Functions Statements(s)

  • Establish, drive and lead a highly effective market and competitive intelligence process to include capturing, assessing and disseminating intelligence/insights across the organization.
  • Develop a broad network of external sources and internal subject matter experts to capture, synthesize and interpret competitive and/or market information
  • Be the go-to-source for when the organization needs to perform market research and customer insights to help drive strategic direction and new product development.
  • Select and manage third party research companies to assist in ECRI research projects.
  • Prepare in depth analysis of competitors’ strategies, strengths/weaknesses, tactics, trends, investments, pipeline and future activities for ECRI’s annual business planning cycle.
  • Create and comply with ethical standards in obtaining competitive information
  • Educate and strengthen the marketing and sales teams through internal competitive materials and external facing materials.
  • Be a strong influence on how to improve search optimization on the website based on competitive and marketing activities.
  • Provide ongoing evaluation and recommendation to ensure ECRI has strong differentiated value propositions and positioning
  • Cultivate a shared understanding across the organization with interactive workshops



  • 5+ years working in market research and competitive intelligence roles.
  • 3+ years working in the healthcare industry.
  • Ability to derive the ‘so-what does this mean to the business’ by integrating multiple pieces of disparate information.
  • Excellent business acumen and strategic thinking to assess and identify implications of competitive business activities across business functions.
  • Experience working with market research methodologies.
  • Experience gathering voice of the customer data and uncovering insights.
  • High intellectual curiosity with the ability to analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information, identify implications, observe patterns, make correct inferences, draw conclusions, explain facts, data, or information to evaluate competitive activity, strategic direction, and core competencies utilizing a wide variety of resources
  • Ability to identify intelligence needs of cross functional organizations and personal observation of emerging trends and issues that have the potential to significantly impact the business
  • Proven sensitivity towards confidentiality, and understanding of all requirements and guidelines that impact legal and ethical conduct associated with competitive intelligence and market research practices.
  • Strong managerial courage when faced with frequent ambiguity
  • Proven track record of leading without authority
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to make the complex very simple to understand.
  • Self-motivated individual who is comfortable and successful working independently and across teams of engineers, scientists, PhDs, MDs

Education: BS or BA in Business, Marketing or Communications degree (MBA in Marketing preferred)
