Database Administrator:

• Is responsible for providing thought leadership to a broad range of IT disciplines including Database and System performance and resiliency, network performance, security administration, and operations in physical/virtual, Cloud Windows and Linux environments. 
• Is a hands-on administrator that installs, configures, monitors, and performs problem determination for Databases, Servers and Software.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 

Essential Duties:

• Administer, Design, monitor and support MS SQL, Azure and Cache databases and On call 24/7.
• Serve as a Database Administrator for On-Prem and Cloud Environments, Products, solutions supported by DSS.
• Implement architectural enhancements on the database tier of the solutions suite to further improve system performance and scalability
• Provide leadership and direction related to operational backup/recovery strategies
• Work with Microsoft technologies, primarily in MS SQL and associated products.
• Guide technology directions by recommending specific technologies to pursue related to the database tier as well as suggesting training and staff development activities.
• Work collaboratively and cohesively in a team.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, and security issues.
• Disaster recovery planning and support.
• Develop and maintain best practice policies, procedures, standards, and system level documentation related to the Production, Disaster Recovery and Staging environments.
• Develop and maintain best practice policies, procedures, standards, and system level documentation for database security.
• Adheres to all Service Request, Incident, and Change Management policies and procedures.
• Adheres to all procedures and policies including the use of Incident and Change Management.
• Works with leadership to identify project requirements.
• Assists and leads project teams.
• Addresses complex technical issues and offers solutions supporting the enterprise.  
• Participates in overall support rotation.

• Ensures system and tool checks are performed daily to verify the integrity, performance, and availability of Databases, Servers and resources in physical/virtual and Cloud environments. 
• Assists Systems Administrators as required or requested.
• Researches and recommends innovative, and where possible automated, approaches for Database and System administration tasks in physical/virtual and Cloud environments.
• Performs troubleshooting as required and leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations.
• Performs ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization in physical/virtual and Cloud environments.
• Performs capacity monitoring and assists with short and long-term capacity planning.
• Installs, configures, tests and maintains Databases, Operating systems, application software and system management tools in physical/virtual and Cloud environments.
• Identifies approaches that leverage resources and provide economies of scale.
• Assists with security monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and penetration testing.
• Verifies data backup, replication, and testing operations are performing correctly.
• Applies OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrades administrative tools and utilities.
• Actively participates in the implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities.

Other Duties:

• Identifies and helps to gather and format data for Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
• Perform on-call responsibilities and after-hours duties, as necessary.
• Creates and maintains detailed technical support and process documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

• 5+ years of experience running SQL in a Virtualized and Cloud environments.
• 5+ years of experience administering Windows Server operating systems.
• 2+ years of experience administering servers and services in the Azure Cloud.
• Practical experience with the installation, maintenance, and upgrades of SQL Server
• Practical experience with data migration and data replication tools, technologies, and strategies
• Knowledge of SQL Server 2017, SQL Management Studio, SQL Server Analysis Services, SQL Server Reporting Services, and Integration Services.
• Knowledge of Azure Cloud hosting of SQL and experience in Cache Database Systems, PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB or in other RDBMS experience in OnPrem and Cloud Environments will be plus.
• Knowledge of reporting and query tools and experience with OLAP and OLTP.
• Hands on experience on SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Power BI or Tableau.
• Capable of running Perfmon or SQL tools to analyze and troubleshoot SQL performance and capacity.
• Ability to Automate processes and manage priorities effectively to achieve optimal results.
• Experience in Enterprise backup and recovery procedures and the ability to use system performance monitoring tools.
• Good technical documentation and communication skills with the ability to articulate clearly and concisely, technical information to non-technical staff, both orally and in writing; prepare clear, detailed instructions.

Desired:

• Fluency in at least one scripting language, shell scripting, and experience with object-oriented programming languages.
• Experience developing automation tools and frameworks for performance measurement and analysis.
• Working understanding of IIS, Active Directory and DNS.
• Working knowledge of Linux operating system, especially process and system monitoring facilities.

Education:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience.

Desired:

• Master’s degree, Computer Science
