Junior Camp Counselor
Job Details
Nonprofit - Social Services

The Junior Counselor program is for girls 16 years or older and have completed at least 11th grade by the summer.

Priority is given to those who have already completed a Counselor in Training (CIT) program and would like to further enhance their leadership skills by learning what it’s like to be a camp counselor.

Selection Process

The initial application deadline is January 25, 2021 at 12:00 NOON. The application, including contact information for three references is to be completed online through the Paycom portal. Applications will be accepted after that date if positions remain.

In the application, girls will be asked to indicate what camps and what weeks they are interested in working at. The application will also ask them to complete questions such as “Why do you want to be a Junior Counselor?” and “Give an example of a time when you had a leadership role.” The application does not have to be completed in one sitting, but in order to return to your application, you’ll need to use the same login information.

New this year, applicants will be able to indicate on their applications if they are interested in specializing in Lifeguarding or Archery/Slingshots. Junior Counselors who are selected to specialize in Lifeguarding or Archery, will be required to take the appropriate training* and attend a weekend training event at camp in June. Lifeguard Junior Counselors and Archery/Slingshot Junior Counselors will still be assigned to a group of campers, but they will also facilitate sessions for their activity. There is a limited number of spaces for these positions.

The Camp Directors will conduct interviews with all applicants and will determine who will be hired for the Junior Counselor Program.  We hope to have completed placements by mid-March. All girls placed in the program will receive an employment and information packet including a Letter of Agreement, Parent Permission Form, information regarding their nights off and more. Girls selected for Junior Counselor Specialist positions will be given more information regarding trainings.

Placement in the program is based on experience and is at the discretion of the Camp Director.  Girls will receive a stipend for being a Junior Counselor.

All Junior Counselors must leave camp on weekend breaks; bus transportation is available at no cost.  Three to four-week sessions are available depending on camp needs and availability. Lifeguard or Archery/Slingshots Junior Counselors may be able to work additional weeks.
