POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Source One is part of Guttman Holdings, an employee-owned company that provides customers with a broad array of fuel supply, storage, transportation, and management services. The Manager of Transportation Operations reports to the Vice President of Transportation Operations and is responsible for driving the company’s mission of being a world class petroleum transportation company. This role requires a results-oriented individual who provides an engaged approach to achieving business objectives. The position requires the ability to collaborate, lead, develop, and execute the company’s performance and safety strategies.

Major Functional Areas and Description of Duties:

Safety & Operations

  • Drive a safety-first performance culture throughout the operations group.
  • Ensure the company remains in compliance with DOT & HOS regulations.
  • Proactively meet with regional managers and drivers to ensure an appropriate focus is placed on safety and that all operational challenges are addressed.
  • Develop and implement operational standards and training for the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of transportation services.
  • Ensure regional operations conduct periodic domicile safety meetings with approved content.
  • Identify by geographic region the transportation and equipment requirements necessary to service Source One customers.
  • Maintain relationships with key vendors, suppliers, and dealers across Source One network.
  • Develop a program to acquire the equipment/rolling stock required to meet the marketing plans.
  • Support the company’s strategy to self-perform tank wagon deliveries to the Oil & Gas field services customers, and other business segments that require less than transport load deliveries.
  • Participate in networking events and join industry related business groups.
  • Assist with the ongoing need of keeping driver compensation plans current to market trends.
  • Provide operational insight to assist in strategy development for the company’s future.
  • Execute strategic growth plans in current domicile locations, as well as develop additional domicile locations that are new to the company. This includes identifying property leases, equipment, staffing, and operating procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date with transportation laws, regulations, and compliance requirements at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Ensure all transportation activities adhere to safety standards and legal requirements, including proper documentation and reporting.
  • Assist with the coordination of vehicle maintenance schedules, repairs, and inspections to minimize downtime and ensure roadworthiness.
  • Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring the safety of employees, assets, and cargo.

Personnel

  • Provide training, management, and coaching to regional operation managers.
  • Supervise all maintenance personnel.
  • Define the needs and timing of Source One driver recruitment by geographic area.
  • Ensure all employees comply with established company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Competencies

BS or BA in Transportation Logistics, Business Administration

  • Experienced in transportation management and planning.
  • Knowledge of petroleum industry
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated knowledge/comfort in logistics technology, equipment and application.
  • Project Management skills
  • This person will be a strong leader who has a demonstrated commitment to safety and a proven track record in driving results. The successful candidate will possess the ability to apply analytical, strategic and tactical thinking to the planning process and have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional organization, yielding desired results. This person will likely have 10-15 years of increasingly responsible operations experience within a transportation / logistics / distribution environment. The ideal candidate will have good interpersonal skills, demonstrates strong general business skills, including financial management, and the ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.

Special Notations or Conditions of Employment

Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration rules and regulations, P A Public Utilities rules and regulations, OH Public Utilities rules and regulations, Federal and State Hazardous Materials rules and regulations, complete state and federal permitting and reporting procedures and all other pertinent transportation industry rules and regulations.
