Description

RN is to direct the nursing department of Arc of Acadiana Northwest.  To provide management of nursing activities in an assigned multi-service area on a twenty-four-hour basis.

  • Assists in maintaining patient care standards by supervising and directing activities of the nursing department and LPNs and coordinating these activities with other departments.
  • Assists in interviewing, hiring, and training LPNs.
  • Counsels with staff under supervision and gives input into promotion or dismissal of employees.
  • Performs all nursing duties required of professional nurses and serves as a role model to lower level professional nurses and paraprofessionals.
  • Determines proper scheduling and assignment of LPNs based on patient acuity of illness.
  • Willingness to work on the floor in the absence of LPNs.
  • Supervises/assists in the ordering of medical supplies and materials needed to ensure quality care.
  • When necessary, acts as liaison with families, other facilities, etc. concerning patients' admission, discharge, transfer, etc.
  • Assist in scheduling doctor appointments
  • Ensure completion of ISP update/PCC entries following return from an appointment and distribute accordingly
  • Obtain medical consents and Prior Authorizations for medications as needed
  • Bring diet and/or therapy changes before MD for approval
  • Maintain lab tickler system to ensure all labs are completed as ordered
  • Audit charts on a regular basis to evaluate nursing care for quality assurance.
  • Formulates and reviews nursing plans of care for all patients in assigned area and ensures that treatments and therapies specified in the plans are carried out.
  • Refers participants to other appropriate community agencies and physicians as necessary.
  • Develops and interprets to other professional and nonprofessional staff area operation policies, procedures and standards of care.
  • Assists in identifying needs for in-service education for all employees and arranges for identify employees to participate.
  • Provides administrative and technical support to nurses and resolves patients' and physicians' complaints.
  • Initiates or responds to various codes; supervises staff to assure that proper procedure is followed.
  • Serves on other assigned committees.
  • All other duties required to ensure quality medical care for all clients. 
  • All other duties assigned by the Director.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid Louisiana license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing plus four years of professional nursing experience.  Management/supervisory experience preferred.
