OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE
Technology Innovation Director blends hands-on software expertise with innovation management, product development, emerging technology with the dexterity and adaptability of a senior level management consultant. The Technology Innovation Director will help identify, define, and craft research strategies and applications for important initiatives, programs, and projects through our Innovation Consultancy practice.

Key Accountabilities

  • Hands-on strategic program and project leadership helping customers adopt “net new” and/or opportunities to challenge the status quo
  • Apply appropriate methods and frameworks including: Hackathons, lean start-up, agile, design thinking, and other strategies for speed to value
  • Develop and manage a successful technology strategies that works in concert with a broader business/competitive strategies
  • Collaborate and steer multi-disciplinary teams including design, business and finance, and operations

We are seeking a high-reaching, thoughtful, and technically minded innovator who has a hunger for helping teams in the pursuit of new opportunities and a resourcefulness to unlock value with speed and agility. This role requires creativity in pursuing and understand emerging technologies and the ability to translate that to broader technical and strategic team members within IT, business, and product development environments. The Technical Innovation Analyst will help identify, define, and craft research strategies and applications for important initiatives, programs, and projects through our Innovation Consultancy practice.

The Technical Innovation Analyst will play an important hands-on research role within the larger, client focused, Innovation Consultancy Teams. You'll use a variety of engineering, scientific, and technical skills to understand feasibility and drive ideas into executable projects within the client innovation environments. Delivering on the client's business needs will require curiosity, thoughtfulness, diligence, solid execution, and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a passion and skill to embrace the unknown in a wide breadth of technical disciplines while applying analysis and project management methodologies. A competitive edge, willingness to take risks, and a passion for driving clarity in ambiguous and complex challenges are a must.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Analyze evolving market dynamics in the power and energy sector by leveraging competitive intelligence and proprietary research/analytics
  • Identify, validate, and enable growth opportunities by running experiments and research in the pursuit of new revenue and cost saving projects that can be scaled within the business.
  • Work with Business Line Management, Commercial Operations and Strategy Development teams on research and relevant market intelligence for existing and potential target applications
  • Conceptualize, build, evaluate, and execute experiment plans and POCs
  • Conduct research projects across program aligned value driven criteria
  • Build reports and presentation to communicate research and insights
  • Be resourceful in providing qualitative and quantitative data and insights
  • Drive overall maturation of an idea through the innovation process. Ideas can be related to product, process, and business innovations
  • Have the capability to work with and across technical, customer experience, enterprise, and business strategy disciplines
  • This role will report on-site at client location in Detroit, MI with embedded team
Qualifications

Key Responsibilities 

Innovation Management

  • Support and help play principle roles managing the process of innovation and change management within an enterprise organization
  • Design approaches for closing the gap between strategy and execution

Product Development

  • Drive research and evidence-based decision-making competencies including clear documentation
  • Present and discuss research results in a convincing and effective manner

Emerging Technology

  • Steer strategic discussions with analysts, partners and alliances to identify and analyze emerging technologies, trends and opportunities for their potential to disrupt existing capabilities, digital and transformation strategies
  • Stay in constant touch with market signals to be the touch point to explore and understand the type and extent of the opportunity

Software Engineering

  • Ability to inform and direct engineers and software development teams
  • Convert analysis to priorities and drive delivery inputs, processes, and outputs

Management

  • Help develop and execute action plans associated with projects, production needs and quality compliance requirements
  • Identify clear success criteria and work with program management to balance scope, timelines and budgets
  • Represent technology perspectives and delivery strategies with stakeholders

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Help lead problem definition and solving, including developing hypotheses, due diligence to support hypotheses, gather and extract implications from data and generate sound recommendations
  • Conduct in-depth analysis on key strategic priorities (e.g., related to opportunity sizing, market entry attractiveness, emerging technical opportunities, etc.) and underlying drivers of business performance
  • Work with program manager and project managers to develop and maintain project plans, resourcing, requirements, timelines, and scope from proof of concepts to mature implementations phases
  • Support identification and experimentation of enabling technologies, features, or systems for savings and or net new value generation
  • Process ideas through the innovation pipeline, from initial concept to prototype, with a bias towards action
  • Understand innovation workstream logic and process flow to ensure tasks align to big goals and priorities
  • Ensure proactive communication, dependability, and accuracy of information
  • Coordinate with internal and external team and partner stakeholders
  • Ensure client process standards and requirements are met
  • Utilize internal client systems and techniques to streamline innovation integration
  • Research and benchmark solutions and use cases for various technologies or key business challenges
  • Identify opportunities for emerging trends in the power and energy space that could provide value to the client
  • Create and participate in business use case development and solution implementation

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Sciences
  • Minimum ten years of experience in related role (Innovation, R&D, Product Development)
  • Digital, technology, and software background

Key Qualifications 

  • Track record of adoption and application of new and emerging technologies with R&D and validation methods and skills
  • Experience using contemporary program development technologies
  • Application development and web programming experience
  • Development and prototyping experience for emerging technologies (Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Virtual / Augmented Reality, Drones / Autonomous Vehicles, etc)
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills and ability to communicate results effectively
  • Consulting Experience (Business, Technology, Digital Transformation)
  • Data analytics or data science experience
