What do you do all day?

National Math + Science Initiative seeks a highly organized individual willing to join our team as one of our Program Managers directly responsible for the management and strategic partnership with a cohort of schools in our NMSI program. The Program Manager ensures the high-quality implementation and sustainment of programming in the schools we serve by becoming strategic partners of school and district leaders who organize and prepare their teachers and students towards advancement in AP programming and STEM education.

To achieve our mission as a NMSI Program Manager, we are committed to support program schools in the successful implementation of the NMSI program through the following strategic priorities: 

  • Increase Access to STEM Opportunities – Prepare district and building level administrators to plan for each academic year using data to drive student AP enrollment increases, strategic addition of AP courses, equitable access to STEM opportunities for all students, and teacher placement/ training throughout the year and summer.
  • Develop School-wide STEM Culture – Develop district and school-level leaders and influencers to facilitate an academic culture shift in their schools/districts that prioritizes access and opportunities for students in STEM education and preparation for College Readiness through coaching and planning.
  • Manage Programming through Partnerships Partner with districts, leaders, and schools to leverage program supports in a way that is most aligned to the needs of the district, students, families, and communities and prepares the district to sustain the work of STEM access for the long-term. 


What are the details?

The Program Manager position reports to the Senior Program Manager. The Program Manager will demonstrate a commitment to NMSI’s mission, effective leadership and influencing skills, and experience in partnership development and/or management; data analysis and exceptional communication, prioritization, and organizational skills are critical for success in this role.  The ability to speak compellingly about our work and develop content knowledge in key organizational initiatives is also required. While work will vary day to day, there are typical job responsibilities in this role:

  • Oversee and manage NMSI programming at the school and district-level to increase AP math, science and English access, enrollment, and student qualifying AP results;
  • Draft, review, and distribute school-based communication critical to the implementation of the NMSI program and tailored to individual partners;
  • Coordinate the collection and reporting of teacher and student engagement data for dissemination to school partners and general reporting purposes;
  • Facilitate analysis of student and teacher performance data in each content area to identify areas for targeted intervention and best practice sharing;
  • Build strong relationships with school-based and district leaders; 
  • Coach school-based and district leaders to utilize data to develop strong academic programs in their schools, choose best practices for instruction, hire and train teachers, and implement and facilitate NMSI programming through continued communication, goal-setting, and clear expectations;
  • Coach school-based and district leaders through periodic check-ins, school visits, and communication and lead them to take ownership of program implementation, follow-through on initiatives, and future sustainability of programming beyond NMSI’s presence in their schools;
  • Partner to develop short and long-term goals and strategic plans with districts and schools that lead to successful implementation of NMSI programs and set schools up for future program sustainment;
  • Share knowledge and benefits of the AP program, AP course sequences and pre-requisites, and exam policies, and support school leaders around individual course recruitment strategies;
  • Identify and build relationships with community partners to enhance school support, understand the regional landscape and its impact on student achievement, and continue growth in the region;
  • Work closely with NMSI’s Growth Team to cultivate and maintain critical relationships aligned with our Regional Impact strategy;
  • Collaborate across all NMSI teams to help ensure the schools we serve receive the best possible service and support;
  • Represent NMSI as the leader in providing STEM education and increased opportunity for student success for every school and every region we partner;
  • Other duties as assigned.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience & Education – Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) required; minimum three years of experience working with schools with demonstrated success coaching and influencing others. Experience working with schools in Pennsylvania preferred;
  • Managing Complexity – As NMSI transitions our programming to focus more on district engagement, your ability to navigate uncertainty and help transition the Program Manager role from current to future state.
  • Skilled Communicator – You have excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication, and the ability to authentically listen to, and connect with, diverse constituencies; present effectively to groups of varying sizes.
  • Strategic Mindset – You’re a critical thinker who analyzes data effectively, sees ahead to future possibilities, and translates them into breakthrough strategies and you make good data-driven decisions.
