Job Details


The Editorial Assistant provides administrative and editorial support to the senior editor and executive editor within Andrews McMeel Publishing. The position supports the editors in all stages of the publication process from identifying content for books to acquisition, through delivery of finished books and marketing.


  • Prepare materials for acquisition meetings, including research, preparation, and presentation of new proposals
  • Maintain schedules, and coordinate projects in process
  • Correspond and interact with authors and agents, under guidance of editors
  • Work closely with associates in design, production, sales, marketing, and digital products
  • Track, analyze, and report on submissions, authors, projects in process
  • Write and create metadata descriptions and keywords for book titles
  • Enter data, or run reports in title management system, NDP and other business systems as required
  • Review every stage of book production for each project including manuscripts, copyedits, first pages and proofreading, cover mechanicals, press proofs, press releases, and marketing materials
  • Prepare sales presentation materials


  • Exceptional written language skills, including good grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail and ability to prioritize
  • Self-starter, willing to take initiative
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Computer proficiency (Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Title Management, NDP)
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, digital media
  • Passion for ideas and for books


  • Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university
  • One to two years of working/internship experience within the industry
