TITLE IX COORDINATOR

 

The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for compliance with Title IX, VAWA, the Clery Act and related laws and regulations. The Title IX Coordinator will develop and implement strategic initiatives, policies and programs designed to prevent sexual harassment, including sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking (collectively “sex discrimination”), respond to reports of alleged sex discrimination in a manner that is prompt, fair, impartial and thorough, and reinforce the College's commitment to fostering a safe and healthy environment for all students and employees.

 

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position and reports to the Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the availability of accessible methods to report alleged sex discrimination.
  • Respond to all complaints of alleged sex discrimination, arrange interim measures and remedies as appropriate, and maintain records of all complaints of alleged sex discrimination.
  • Oversee and manage disciplinary proceedings regarding alleged sex discrimination that are prompt, fair, impartial and thorough.
  • Communicate with Campus Police and local law enforcement as appropriate regarding reports of alleged sex discrimination and coordinate with local victim advocacy organizations and service providers.
  • Train and oversee deputy Title IX coordinators and other personnel involved in work related to Title IX compliance, including investigators and hearing officers.
  • Develop, present and assess prevention and awareness programs and campaigns for students, faculty and staff designed to prevent gender-based violence, promote safety, and encourage bystander intervention.
  • Develop, present and assess training programs for incoming and current students, faculty and staff related to Title IX, VAWA, the Clery Act and related laws and regulations.
  • Identify, assess and address any patterns apparent from a review of reports of alleged sex discrimination.
  • Conduct climate surveys regarding Title IX and gender equity issues.
  • Coordinate and implement compliance with the Clery Act, including but not limited to preparation and dissemination of the Annual Security Report and Annual Fire Safety Report.
  • Serve as record custodian for all Clery records, ensuring documented proof of compliance for audits.
  • Draft and revise policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Title IX, VAWA, the Clery Act and related laws and regulations.
  • Ensure that information on the College's website and other relevant communications or media related to Title IX, VAWA and the Clery Act are current and relevant.
  • Stay informed of national and state trends, best practices, guidance, law, and regulations relevant to the position’s areas of responsibility, including Title IX, VAWA, the Clery Act and other laws applicable to higher education (e.g., FERPA).
  • Compile and submit mandatory reports pertaining to Title IX, VAWA, the Clery Act and related laws and regulations.
  • Chair the Sexual Assault Prevention Committee and the Clery Compliance Committee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters or doctorate degree required; J.D. preferred.
  • Professional experience in law or higher education; prior Title IX and Clery Act experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with laws and regulations impacting higher education, including Title IX, VAWA, the Clery Act and FERPA.
  • Experience in developing, drafting, and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Experience conducting investigations of alleged discrimination.
  • Counseling or trauma-informed sexual violence training.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion goals across the institution, enhancing employees' cultural competency skills, and cultivating a work environment that is equitable for and inclusive of employees with diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
