Description

The Manager of Volunteer Engagement supports the Senior Director of Regional Engagement with the development and execution of United Way’s stakeholder engagement strategy, including volunteer events for corporate partners and individuals, as well as programs which seek to educate stakeholders about the challenges United Way is working to address in the community, such as Connect U, the Poverty Spiral, and the Racial Wealth Gap Simulator. This individual will supervise a small team of coordinators who execute volunteer and engagement events, and directly contribute to the work of the Volunteer Initiatives team, which mobilizes thousands of volunteers, hundreds of the region’s top companies, and leading human services agencies in support of United Way’s overall strategic objectives.

 

Essential Functions

  • In consultation with Senior Director of Regional Engagement, develop and execute strategy for year-round engagement in volunteerism and educational opportunities that connect stakeholders to United Way’s work in the community.
  • Oversee and manage all logistical aspects for engagement and volunteer events.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to recruit and engage target groups – corporate partners, donor groups, etc – in meaningful engagement opportunities.
  • Engage agency partners to stay abreast of needs in the community and design impactful volunteer opportunities for key stakeholders.
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve and streamline processes and operations internally to better connect stakeholders with United Way’s work and improve cross-organization collaboration.
  • Support efforts to effectively track and manage volunteer data in organizational CRM system.

 

Additional Functions

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals, both orally and through written materials, demonstrates active listening skills when working with others.
  • Ability to make timely and decisive decisions with a sense of urgency.
  • Experience working in a non-profit agency, preferably one providing services, and experience supporting volunteers.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.

 

People Management Responsibilities

  • Supervise volunteer coordinators in execution of engagement events and achievement of their overall goals.

 

Financial/Budgetary Responsibilities

  • Create budget and monitor all expenses for engagement events and programs ranging in size up to $100,000.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree or 3-5 years of experience in volunteer management, event planning or similar field is required.

 

Annual Salary

  • Pay Grade 105
  • Salary Range $47,000 - $52,500

  • Display an exemplary degree of customer service.
  • Strong organizational skills to execute multiple projects and manage competing priorities.
  • Relationship builder and collaborator with a customer service mindset.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communications.

 

Certifications/Licenses

  • A valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle for travel within the region are required.

 

Physical Demands

  • Exerting 20 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10 -25 lbs. force frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly. Physical demand requirements are greater than that required for Light Work.

 

Travel Requirements

  • Frequent travel within the region via ground transportation, no overnight stays required.
