The Orthopedic & Sports Institute Ambulatory Surgery Center is seeking a full-time exempt Peri-Operative Informatics Nurse at our Appleton location.  This role is responsible for advancing the operations efficiency of clinical data, information, and knowledge in perioperative nursing practice and administration.


  • Implement clinical data requirements for peri-operative patients as they relate to organizational policies, procedures, business operations, national quality and safety initiatives, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and social and environmental impacts.
  • Coordinate the advancement of the peri-operative clinical information technology system and tools to satisfy the above data requirements.
  • Use results of evaluation analyses to determine the impact of the peri-operative information technology plan on the perioperative RN, customers, families, organizational resources, networks, and the organization.
  • Act as a liaison between nursing and member of the internal and external perioperative information technology design and clinical documentation teams.
  • Analyze order requirement and design, clinical documentation needs, user interface design, and database aggregation needs with content vendors to customize content to produce organizational specifics order sets, clinical documentation sets, decision support tools and reports.
  • Address documentation and organization barriers that prevent full integration of safe patient – centered care and quality patient outcomes in the perioperative setting
  • Assume a leadership role in organization-wide information technology 
  • Participate in current workflow mapping and future workflow development, application design and development, content issues resolution and implementation, and ongoing support of the perioperative information system.
  • Contribute to development of policies and procedures related to physician order sets and perioperative clinical documentation.
  • Educate perioperative personnel or other clinician across the health care system about the implementation plan of the perioperative information systems and relevant information issues (e.g., data security, Health Level Seven (KL7) Standards, meaningful use (MU), quality, and safety reporting requirements)
  • Train new team members and work collaboratively with designated super users
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school
  • Current registered nurse license in Wisconsin
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Minimum of 3 years peri-operative experience
  • Minimum of two-year information system support, including participation in implementation of a major information system/tool
  • Computer proficiency in Epic system and Microsoft applications
  • Ability to translate business and patient requirements into complex computer applications
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and planning skills
  • Strong verbal and written skills, including communication skills that promote interpersonal relations, customer service and teamwork.
