Function Summary:

Assist to ensure that safety programs are in place and in conformance with standards of OSHA while reducing workplace injuries and their impact on employees and the organization as a whole.

Essential Functions/Key Accountabilities:          

  1. Follow direction provided by the Safety Manager.
  2. Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to, and enforcing, all safety procedures and policies inside and outside the facility, including use of personal protective and McLanahan equipment as required.
  3. Represent McLanahan Corporation in a positive manner both internally and externally while adhering to the organization’s core values.
  4. Communicate effectively with co-workers, management, customers, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  5. Review and update OSHA programs.
  6. Maintain awareness of changing trends and regulations which might affect the department and act on as required. 
  7. Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA and other safety and environmental regulations.
  8. Maintain appropriate documentation of safety programs including inspections, certifications, and other such documentation.
  9. Remain current on the latest and best hazard control information.
  10. Inspect the facilities for compliance with state, local and federal regulations.
  11. Develop, and implement, annual training program.
  12. Preform audit of the facility, for all chemicals and compare results to SDS file.
  13. Perform any activities as deemed necessary to maintain compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulation regarding safety and environmental protection.

Educational/Other Requirements:

  1. Enrolled in a safety or related curriculum at an accredited university.
  2. Sophomore class or later.
  3. Minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 Scale).
  4. Computer literacy including MS Office applications.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Physical Requirements:

This position is typically located in a shop/production environment with requirement to walk, stand, sit, climb, crawl, kneel, life, etc. on a continuous basis. Depending on the assignment, the position may require ambulatory skills sufficient to manipulate (lift, carry, move) weights of 10 to 50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read technical information. Requires the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of both verbal and written communication.
