Description

Function Summary:

Develops and implements optimal, cost-effective process on the shop floor and methods of manufacturing for the facility. Recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls. Coordinates manufacturing launch for equipment as required and supports routing and MOM integrity for all product.

 

Essential Functions/Key Accountabilities:

  1. Follow Direction provided by Manufacturing Manager.
  2. Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to, and enforcing, all safety procedures and policies inside and outside the facility, including use of personal protective and McLanahan equipment as required.
  3. Represent McLanahan Corporation in a positive manner both internally and externally while adhering to the organization’s core values.
  4. Communicate effectively with co-workers, management, customers, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  5. Resolve manufacturing-related issues to satisfy customer specification requirements and/or McLanahan design requirements. These issues include but are not limited to troubleshooting assembly problems, material non-conformances, process changes, procedural recommendations and/or modifications, and drawing interpretation.
  6. Recommend design improvements to align with manufacturing capability resulting in a reduction of product cost and/or improve product quality based on feedback from manufacturing, service, sales, or others.
  7. Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement and improved efficiency in production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.
  8. Use computer assisted drafting equipment and software to revise drawings.
  9. Help coordinate engineering change orders with internal groups including purchasing, manufacturing, quality control, engineering, sales, and accounting.
  10. Participate in engineering and general design reviews as required.
  11. Assist quality assurance with implementation of ISO 9001 procedures in Cedar Rapids facility. Participates and facilitates company lean initiatives as required.
  12. Keep supervisor advised of work status, workload, problems, and progress as related to work assignments.
  13. Some travel may be required to other McLanahan facilities or to job sites as required to trouble-shoot, inspect, repair, and oversee equipment.
  14. Designs, develops and tests and/or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery and equipment for recommend methods on the shop floor.
Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

This position is typically located in an office setting and requires sitting and standing for long periods of time, but will interact frequently with personnel and equipment/processes in the manufacturing environment. The position requires ambulatory skills sufficient to travel domestically and internationally. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, visual acuity to use a keyboard, and operate standard office equipment The position requires the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 50 pounds. Requires the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of both verbal and written communication.

Educational/Other Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or other equivalent training and experience
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience.
  3. Experience with AutoCad, Inventor, or other 3D solid modeling CAD programs.
  4. Experience with heavy equipment design and manufacturing methods for same.
  5. Computer literacy including MS Office applications.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  8. Ability to successfully reach company goals in an environment in which a wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.
  9. Proven knowledge of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing Techniques.
