The Director of Accounting and Finance will serve as a key member of GO Project’s Finance & HR department reporting to the Chief Financial Officer. As the Director of Accounting and Finance, you will support the CFO in leading the financial operations of a $30 million organization and implementing strategic financial decisions. The successful candidate will be a hands-on and participative manager and will lead and develop a team in our Kansas City office to support the following areas: accounting, cash flow management, finance, business planning and budgeting, and administration for The Global Project and its subsidiaries.

 

Your Responsibilities Include:

Accounting & Financial Management

  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, tax and regulatory requirements. Develop, implement and enhance existing controls and processes to ensure a strong system of internal controls.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly and annual close and reporting cycles to ensure accurate and timely reporting. Identify and implement processes, technology, and policies to shorten the monthly and annual close processes.
  • Oversee the payroll staff and process to ensure payments made to employees and contractors are timely and accurate.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit and tax filing process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors.
  • Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the CFO; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and oversee preparation of financial analyses for the CFO.
  • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting with the CFO, leveraging financial planning software. Help drive adoption of financial planning tool within the organization.
  • Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/ reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection process is followed to support cash flow management.
  • Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.

Third-Party Oversight & Coordination

  • Oversee day to day interactions with third-party partners providing services for our 401K plan, HRIS platform, payroll tax services, insurance, and benefit plans. Ensure that services received are meeting the needs of our organization and any issues are resolved timely.

Team Management

  • Mentor and develop a direct team of accounting and finance staff, managing work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance evaluation, and the building of an effective team dynamic.
  • Hire and retain staff as needed.
  • Guide larger, cross-divisional teams outside of direct span of control within the three primary program areas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Certification as a CPA, CFA or CFP is preferred.
  • Seven to ten years of overall accounting or finance experience; ideally experience with nonprofit organizations.
  • Proven effectiveness leading and developing professionals in finance and accounting.
  • Robust analytical skills with the ability to translate financial concepts to terms that are understandable to program and fundraising colleagues to support cross-departmental goals and objectives.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders with varying levels of financial acumen.
  • A track record in grants management and reconciling restricted net assets.
  • Experience selecting, implementing, and overseeing accounting and finance related software and managing relationships with software vendors. Experience with QuickBooks, Stripe, Paycom, Salesforce, and Runway, or similar systems.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Zoom.
  • Personal qualities of courage, humility, excellence, and integrity, with a dedication to the mission of The Global Orphan Project.
  • Authorized to work lawfully in the United States. The organization will not be providing visa sponsorship for this position.

Compensation

The compensation range for this position is between $70,000 - $90,000 & is commensurate with relevant skills and experience.
