POSITION SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of the Program Manager of Health Equity Education is to create, produce, and oversee APA educational products aiming to improve psychiatric care to diverse populations. The Program Manager of Health Equity represents the division internally and externally and acts in concert with the Deputy Director to develop the initiatives related to educating members. The incumbent may perform other duties as assigned that are logically related to the position.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee development of educational resources (e.g. CME modules, Factsheets, Videos, Podcasts, etc) that align with APAs fourth strategic initiative, Diversity
    • Perform need analysis to identify knowledge gap within APA resources related to diversity and health equity
    • Identify APA members who are subject-matter experts in diversity/health equity-related topics
    • Develop guidelines for creating and submitting educational resources (Working with APA CME Office as needed)
    • Monitor development and progress of resources
    • Review and edit the contents of resources
    • Develop advertising strategy to promote resources to APA membership
    • Facilitate post-production analytics of educational resources (Working with APA Communications)
  • Manage APA Diversity and Health Equity (DHE) webpage
    • Monitor and update APAs DHE webpage and align it with APAs fourth strategic priority, Diversity
    • Identify resources that should be available on the webpage and steer the development process
    • Facilitate webpage analytics, routinely
  • Assist in developing and executing other APA Diversity Related Programs/Initiatives that could result in educational resources
    • Help with assessment, development and deployment of programs focused on diversity and health equity including APA Community Mental Health Disparities Programs
    • Work with DDHE leadership to identify stakeholders, partners, and participants of specific programs
    • Serve as a staff liaison for APA-assigned workgroups/committees as needed
    • Coordinate off-site and onsite meetings, under the direction of Deputy Director
    • Help with monitoring progress of respective programs, as assigned
    • Under the direction of the Deputy Director, monitor expenditure of respective programs
    • Assist in communication activities for DDHE-related programming
    • Partake in periodic evaluations (e.g. mid-year and year-end evaluations) of programs to report outcomes
  • Serve as staff liaison to one of DDHE-liaised Council (e.g. Geriatric Council, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Council, and Council on Minority Mental Health and Health Disparities)
    • Confer with chairpersons to establish strategies, agendas, work plans and timelines
    • Plan meetings and facilitate member participation
    • Write and submit a variety of component documents, such as meeting minutes and Governance reports, etc.
    • Track component assignments and referrals to ensure follow-through
    • Collaborate with other APA offices and components regarding overlapping activities and interests
    • Support the activities of the Councils and manage Awards, where applicable.
    • Support the activities of the Caucuses, where applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree required; masters degree preferred
  • Three to five years of experience in working on the development of online educational materials in medicine/health or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Superb administrative skills, leadership, and organizational abilities including management of diverse and overlapping projects and timelines
  • Skill developing and editing various kinds of reports
  • Program management experience, preferably in an academic, membership, or association setting
  • Well-developed meeting planning skills
  • Excellent cultural sensitivity
  • Excellent writing skills, organization, and prioritization skills
  • Excellent proficiency with MS Office applications and The Internet
  • Experience with marketing and promoting events and services a plus
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet parallel deadlines
