Position Overview:
The Portfolio Manager works within a team under the Director of Fellowships primarily responsible for the success of the Design-Your-Own Legal Fellowship program. The position sits within the Fellowships Unit which runs Equal Justice Works’ two post-graduate legal fellowship programs and Fellow alumni program. Equal Justice Works is hiring multiple Portfolio Managers at this time with responsibilities to be designated on the basis of regional division or other programmatic needs.
The Portfolio Manager role holds both fundraising (40%) and program responsibilities (60%). Fundraising duties include the cultivation and stewardship of current and prospective fellowship sponsors to achieve fundraising targets and sponsorship engagement objectives. The position ensures the fulfillment of high-quality Fellowship projects and Fellow experience through supporting Fellows based at host sites, maintaining connections with regional Alumni, and actively contributing to the Unit’s overall programming aligned to the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Sustain and grow Equal Justice Works’ funding portfolio and key constituent relationships in the assigned region - primarily law firms, corporate general counsels, and other regional funders
- Solicit multi-year fellowship sponsorships and gifts from new and current donors
- Steward fellowship sponsors through the annual Fellow selection process and throughout the fellowship term
- Work collaboratively with the Institutional Advancement Unit to support overall fundraising and constituent relations objectives, including annual event Steering Committee and event sponsor cultivation
- Act as primary relationship manager for Fellows in the portfolio, oversee and advise Fellows on sponsor relations including presentations and pro bono engagement, and monitor progress on individual fellowship projects
- Support the delivery of Fellow training and professional development initiatives, including annual Leadership Development Training for all current Fellows
- Cultivate relationships with Alumni in the portfolio region to advance alumni engagement program goals
- Prepare various internal and external-facing written reports and communications
- Deliver presentations to external constituents and represent the organization at sector and sponsor-related events and conferences
- Contribute to the achievement of team and Unit workplans and organizational priorities and initiatives, including efforts to advance diversity, equity and inclusion
