Description

MidAmerica Nazarene University, a progressive Christian university located in Olathe, Kansas, is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Old Testament and Biblical Languages in Christian Ministry and Formation.   The position is a full-time 9 month faculty appointment.   Candidates for this position should be able to demonstrate a commitment to higher education delivered with a Christ-centered worldview, a strong commitment to the student leadership model, and be able to successfully perform the responsibilities outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach 4 courses (12 units) each semester, including both General Education and Upper Division
  • Support Department activities that lead to student retention and recruitment
  • Provide regular vocational and life advising to a group of students in the department (approximately 25)
  • Assist in Departmental sponsored activities both inside and outside MNU
  • Participate in regular Department assessment and accreditation efforts
  • Assist in building and maintaining a trusting alliance with regional churches and leaders, especially in regard to Bible and Theology priorities
  • Teach other General Education courses in Bible and Theology, as needed
  • Teach Bible and Theology summer courses, as needed

 

Qualifications
  • Terminal academic degree in Bible related field, with emphasis in Old Testament, from an accredited institution. PhD preferred.
  • Ordained Minister in the Church of the Nazarene or eligible for ordination
  • Local church pastoral experience
  • Higher education teaching experience
  • Proficient in Hebrew and Greek biblical languages
  • Familiarity with common in-class teaching tools (PowerPoint, iPad apps, language tools) as well as learning management systems (e.g. Moodle)
  • Ability to conduct and publish research, create academic presentations, and lead lay level training in Bible related fields of content specialization
  • Giftedness in relating to and having meaningful conversation with young adults
