Job Purpose:  SPCA Tampa Bay is seeking to grow its donor and volunteer base in Pinellas County and the greater Tampa Bay area. Our ideal candidate is an experienced, local Major Gifts Officer who loves animals and has deep connections in the community. H/she will generate leads, leverage strong local relationships, cultivate donor support, and act as an ambassador for SPCA Tampa Bay Tampa Bay to increase donor engagement and giving levels. The Sr Director of Campaigns will work collaboratively with the Development team, CEO, board members and other external stakeholders to generate support for both the Annual Fund and the current Capital Campaign.


Responsibilities and Duties:

Essential Functions:

  • Personally identify, cultivate, and solicit new donors, helping SPCA Tampa Bay deepen its roots in the community.
  • Manage an individual portfolio of high-capacity donors and donor prospects, with responsibility for raising major gifts for both the Annual Fund and Capital Campaign in partnership with the Director of Philanthropy and other appropriate leadership, including the CEO and other frontline colleagues.
  • Ensure SPCA Tampa Bay’s prospect pipeline is robust and growing by working with the Development team, CEO and board members on necessary research, and actively seeking new networking opportunities with community liaisons, SPCA Ambassadors, and more.
  • Represent SPCA Tampa Bay at events as appropriate; attend community meetings/events to represent the SPCA and advance relationships with external partners, organizations, and constituencies.

Bachelor’s degree.


  • 5 - 7 years of experience managing high-level donor relationships and obtaining gifts of $1,000 and above
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the local philanthropic landscape.

Demonstrated Competencies:

  • Extraordinary communication skills which motivate people and inspire them to take action.
  • Resourceful and curious – willing to seek out answers and solutions to best address donor inquiries.
  • Ability to qualify donors that meet the major gift or planned giving criteria.
  • Ability to create reasonable financial goals for each donor which are based on their giving and their potential.
  • Ability to create and write effective offers, proposals and asks. Ability to report back to donors on how their giving made a difference.
  • Ability to create timely reports that reflect caseload performance.
  • Understanding of planned giving principles and vehicles; and ability to coordinate interactions with donors and their financial planners to facilitate a gift.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Computer-savvy: exceedingly proficient in Microsoft Office and proficient and familiar with fundraising databases such as Raiser’s Edge NXT or similar.

Licensure or Certification:

CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) designation strongly preferred.

Valid Florida driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Physical Demands:

Ability to work flexible hours.

Community outreach in a variety of environments including indoor and outdoor.

Ability to travel throughout the Tampa Bay area.


Reliable transportation. 

Ability to pass required background checks.
