Southeastern Guide Dogs is seeking a highly experienced and innovative veterinarian to join its world-class veterinary team and execute the organization’s veterinary care and canine conditioning programs. The successful candidate will bring skills in both traditional western as well as eastern medicine.

Core Competencies:

Medical Services

  • Conducts routine physicals
  • Performs diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of all medical concerns
  • Performs routine surgical procedures
  • Provides on-call medical services
  • Provides emergency care, including afterhours care or ensures availability of alternative coverage if unavailable
  • Provides oversight and counsel to whelping and neonatal care team
  • Conducts regularly scheduled veterinary rounds and preventive care programs to maintain health of animals and guard against communicable diseases
  • With assistance from other staff and volunteers, executes canine conditioning program



  • Educates alumni, puppy raisers, breeder hosts, and outside clients on common health concerns, preventative care, weight management and conditioning
  • Presents information to management, public groups, volunteers and/or donors
  • Collaborates caseload with all veterinarians and other departments affected by veterinary decisions

  • Excellent diagnostic skills and ability to read and interpret clinical laboratory results
  • Proficiency in utilizing ultrasound, radiographic and ophthalmic equipment currently on campus
  • Demonstrate proficiency with orthopedic and soft tissue surgery and determination of when surgeries should be performed off campus or at referral centers
  • Proficiency in canine anesthesia
  • The successful candidate will possess a Doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine, a current Florida Veterinary license and certificate of insurance of a Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate allowing ordering and use of controlled substance
