The Associate Director of Health and Population Specific Programs has strategic and operational responsibility for food access program partnerships with health care entities and other organizations uniquely focused on the needs of older adults, people with disabilities and veterans. Often individuals coping with food insecurity have the double burden of managing diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, and depression. Disproportionately Black and Brown communities are impacted. This role will prioritize -evolving equitable program interventions addressing social determinates of health, including food insecurity screenings and nutrition education as well as produce and prepared meal distribution programs. The Associate Director is responsible for partner management, program processes and execution.
This highly collaborative role works closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure we understand need and preferences of the community we serve and implement strategies to ensure the nutrition support needed and desired by the communities we seek to support. The position will work with in collaboration with other Community Impact leadership and partners to drive, initiate and direct strategy for the organization. The Associate Director will be a collaborative, team player with deep program operational.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
· Lead a 7 person team (2 full time staff and 5 AmeriCorps) including strategy and goal alignment management of key deadlines, and budget oversight.
- Work closely with the Program Coordinator in the execution of the day-to-day operations and relationship management of the program specific food access interventions
- Support the work and experiences of up to 5 AmeriCorps/AmeriCorps VISTA members annually who serve as direct service staff and administrative support to the programs operated by this team
- Provide support and leadership to the Community Nutrition & Health Program Manager
· Project manage the implementation as well as the day-to-day operations of programming that supports these key population specific program responses.
· Leverage industry and functional expertise to shape strategic and operational decisions, specifically work related to supporting the social determinants of health, the needs of older adults and people with disabilities.
· Actively participate in health collaborative efforts and build health care partnerships throughout the community representing the Food Depository work and strategic direction in addressing health equity and connect dots as funding/granting opportunities arise
· Ensure strong relationship building and management with more than 100 organizations, key system partners, and stake holders including: Health System partners, Cook County agencies, City of Chicago, Chicago Housing Authority, veteran and older adult focused organizations. Cultivating new partnerships and programs throughout Cook County. Drive new innovations and programs to be responsive to community needs and strategically address challenges.
· Optimize program processes, identify new opportunities, scan for best practices and drive continuous improvement.
· Communicate program strategy to a broad range of audiences including staff, partners, donors and other key audiences, adjusting message and content based on insights gained through deep individual listening and perceptive observation of group dynamics.
· Ensure strong oversight of programs to ensure all program partners are operating in accordance with the organizations food service standards, monitoring bodies and funders where applicable.
· Ensure strong collaboration and coordination across key internal stakeholders, including communications, finance, public policy, community impact and development teams.
· Represent the Food Depository at conferences, coalition meetings and with the media.
· Coach and mentor direct reports with a focus on creating growth opportunities and providing regular, constructive, feedback.
