The American Psychiatric Association (APA), the main professional organization of psychiatrists and trainee psychiatrists in the United States, and the largest psychiatric organization in the world, is seeking exceptional and motivated candidates to serve as a Senior Program Manager within the Division of Diversity and Health Equity. The Senior Program Manager will assist the Division Chief in building and fostering diversity, equity, inclusion efforts locally, nationally and internationally through existing and enhanced APA networks. The incumbent will support highly visible events and activities to promote cultural respect, which has a positive effect on patient care delivery by enabling mental healthcare providers to deliver services that are respectful of and responsive to the health beliefs, practices and cultural and linguistic needs of diverse patients. Responsibilities of this position are in alignment with the APAs fourth strategic initiative of supporting and increasing diversity within APA; serving the needs of evolving, diverse, underrepresented and underserved patient populations; and working to end disparities in mental health care. The incumbent may perform other duties as assigned that are related to the position.


  • Works with internal and external partners in the creation and execution of diversity trainings and workforce inclusion initiatives to improve psychiatric care to diverse populations.
    • Lead efforts to develop and administer training initiatives to diversify the psychiatric workforce and expand recruitment and retention.
    • Facilitate live and virtual diversity trainings with members, professional audiences, and staff.
    • Oversee the development of training resources such as Continuing Medical Education (CME) modules, factsheets, videos, podcasts, toolkits, etc.
    • Perform need analysis to identify knowledge gap within APA resources related to diversity trainings and workforce inclusion.
    • Develop guidelines for creating and submitting training resources (working with APA CME Office as needed).
    • Monitor development and progress of resources.
    • Facilitate post-production analytics of training resources.
    • Generate and provide diversity and workforce inclusion related stories to surface equity-related news with Communications, website, and Psychiatric News.
  • Contribute to the creation, production and oversee programs and products of the APAs DDHE.
    • Work with DDHE leadership to identify stakeholders, partners, and participants of specific programs.
    • Serve as a staff liaison for APA-assigned workgroups/committees as needed.
    • Coordinate off-site and onsite meetings.
    • Under the direction of the Division Chief, monitor expenditure of respective programs.
    • Partake in periodic evaluations (e.g., mid-year and year-end evaluations) of programs to report outcomes.
    • Reviews current literature and serves as a resource on updated research or emerging issues which advance diversity and health equity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelors degree required; masters degree preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in working on the development of online educational materials in medicine/health or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Superb administrative skills, leadership, and organizational abilities including management of diverse and overlapping projects and timelines.
  • Skill developing and editing various kinds of reports.
  • Program management experience, preferably in an academic, membership, or association setting.
  • Well-developed meeting planning skills.
  • Excellent cultural humility skills.
  • Experience working with multiple, diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent proficiency with MS Office applications and the Internet.
