MIND Research Institute is the creator of ST Math, a breakthrough approach to learning mathematics that is based on neuroscience and the way the brain learns. Thus, spatial-temporal models comprise the core of all our interactive puzzles.

The Learning Game Designer will work collaboratively with math specialists, artists, and engineers to produce our learning games and interactive classroom activities. Using your learning design genius you will define learning outcomes, design games and classroom activities that actualize them, and develop them through production and into the hands of students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and produce ST Math games and interactive classroom activities that disrupt industry best practices and achieve learning objectives set out by math specialists.

  • Produce engaging and functional sketches and wireframes, knowing when to make low-fi sketches and when to apply pixel-perfect precision.

  • Ensure our interactive content has a cohesive, responsive and intuitive end-to-end design from first discovery through ramping and leveling.

  • Use strong design processes to take projects through stages (e.g. problem definition, usability principles, research, ideation, mock-ups and feedback sessions), you quickly and logically explore, validate and refine design concepts and game flows.

  • Proactively and clearly communicate your ideas, learnings, recommendations and document specifications, etc. in a visually clear and consistent manner.

  • Shepherd the learning content through all stages of production to ensure the content stays true to design intent and meets quality standards.

  • Remain organized and work in an efficient manner at all times.

  • Other projects related to improving student learning experience and outcomes.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • An eclectic background at the intersection of teaching, design, and technology 

  • 3+ years teaching experience

  • Solid understanding of K12 mathematics

  • Proficiency in 2D design tools such as Adobe Suite, Affinity Designer, etc.

  • Technically adept (you may not be able to write code, but you can certainly read and modify it)

  • Ability and desire to design open-ended educational experience that support learning through engagement, discovery, and feedback

  • Eagerness and adaptability to learn and design to the ST Math design standards, with the ability to raise the bar on our designs and learning outcomes

  • Critical thinker and problem solver

  • Passion for designing the world's best mathematics learning experiences

Even better if you have:

  • Background in Game/UX Design

  • Mathematics teaching experience

  • Degree in Design, Education, Mathematics, or other related field

This role can be based in Irvine, CA or anywhere in the United States, as long as you dont mind turning on your webcam to build a rapport. If remote, you may also have to take a trip to sunny Southern California 1-2x a year (when it is safe to do so). This position will report to the Senior Director of Product Content.
