Description

SUMMARY

The Site Host provides presence and oversight at the Honanki heritage cliff dwelling site and educates site visitors on proper site etiquette. The Site Host may provide a brief history of the site and area and is available to answer any questions. The Site Host records miscellaneous data regarding the visitors to the site each day. The Site Host will represent Pink Jeep Tours and the U.S. Forest Service in a positive and professional manner supporting each organization’s mission and values.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welcome site visitors and provide trail and site etiquette instructions
  • Provide basic historical information about the heritage site to visitors
  • Assist U.S. Forest Service Park Supervisors and Archeologists as needed
  • Report new graffiti or vandalism to U.S.F.S personnel
  • Provide first aid assistance for minor injuries and assists in rescue activities
  • Inspect the site throughout the day providing a customer service and security presence. Advise visitors who are violating site or trail etiquette to stop or leave
  • Help maintain heritage site by sweeping or removing footprints, trash or other evidence of human disturbance
  • Checks the restroom daily and ensures toiletry supplies are well stocked
  • Maintain daily visitor and tour sign in sheet and completes daily, monthly, and annual visitation reports
  • Record and photograph found artifacts for the U.S. Forest Service
  • Report inclement weather conditions to Manager of Duty and determine whether site should be closed to tours
  • Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent
  • Good Driving Record (MVR Report required)
  • Tour Guide, teaching, or docent experience preferred

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Carefully inspects the Jeep on a daily basis which involves leaning, lifting, and crouching
  • The employee must be able to work outside for up to 10 -11 hours per day and endure weather conditions that include temperatures from 30-100 degrees along with rain, snow, and monsoons
  • Must be able to alternate from sitting to standing frequently throughout the day to greet visitors
  • Manually records data throughout the day about visitors and customers
  • Able to walk on dirt path up to heritage site to assist guests or provide routine maintenance or security one to two times per shift. This involves a ¾ mile round trip walk/hike on some uneven terrain each time
  • Trained in CPR/First Aid and so should be able to remain calm and effective when dealing with medical emergencies encountered
  • Maintain efficient, daily contact and adequate radio/phone communication with the Customer Service and Guide Management staff to report information as required
  • Safely operates the Jeep through city traffic, varied Forest Service terrain, in all types of weather conditions. Must be able to drive in mild to bumpy dirt road conditions to and from heritage site each work day
  • Regularly required to talk and hear
  • The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • The noise level is usually quiet to moderate
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • The employee must wash and fuel vehicle on a daily basis or as needed. Repetitive motion involves climbing in and out of the jeep, reaching overhead and across at chest level, bending from the waist
