Salary: $69,496.30 (Including FLSA overtime on a 48/96 schedule)
Waller-Harris Emergency Services District No. 200 (“District”) is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Full-Time Driver/Operator.

Responsibilities:
The Full-Time Driver/Operator will be assigned to work a forty-eight (48) hour shift, working a 48/96 schedule. The Full-Time Driver/Operator will be responsible for responses to fire and emergency medical incidents, participate in public education activities, participate in various planning meetings, and perform general maintenance and upkeep of fire apparatus, equipment, and fire station.


Duties:
Responsible for carrying out operations for the fire department under the supervision of a Lieutenant or Captain.
• Perform all duties assigned by Lieutenant/ Captain or Superior Officer.
• Drive, operate and maintain fire apparatus according to the Department's Standard Operating Guidelines, Procedures, Policies, Manufacturer recommendations, and Motor vehicle laws of the State of Texas.
• Drive and maneuver Department apparatus safely, effectively, and efficiently always.
• Have working knowledge of routes within the district, territory, and surrounding areas to ensure expeditious response times.
• Conduct routine care and maintenance of the Department's apparatus, assuring operational readiness according to manufacturer recommendations.
• Complete daily inspection and maintenance records via PSTrax Online of assigned Department apparatus and equipment.
• Recognize and promptly report safety or mechanical problems immediately to a supervisor and report and alert to PSTrax Online as soon as possible.
• Participate in fire containment and suppression, ventilation, rescue, property conservation, and customer service activities while protecting life and property.
• Be knowledgeable of the Department's Standard Operating Guidelines and policies.
• Administers first aid and emergency medical care to injured/ill persons consistent with the level authorized by EMS certification, established medical protocols, and standard operating procedures.
• Participate in fire prevention, safety education presentations, and pre-fire planning as required.
• Participate in all Fire Department and company-level training activities.
• Receive and execute routine assignments, special projects or programs, and orders as directed by a higher-ranking officer.
• Complete all routine paperwork and reports in a correct and timely manner.
• Receive and execute routine assignments, special projects or programs, and orders as directed by a supervisor.
• At the direction of, or in the absence of, a higher-ranking officer, assume a higher rank's responsibilities, activities, and duties until relieved.
• Regular and consistent attendance at the assigned work hours is essential.
• Be courteous, professional, and helpful in their relations with fellow firefighters, the public, and superior officers.
• See that all visitors are greeted courteously, and that unauthorized person(s) are not permitted to go about the station unescorted.
• Ensure fire stations and department facilities are maintained clean, neat, and orderly.
• Maintain required certifications.
• Report for duty on time and able to perform tasks.
• Report to work free from the effects of illegal drugs or alcohol, and report to work free from impairment due to prescription drugs.
• Perform any other duties assigned by a superior officer.


Requirements/Qualifications:
• Two (2) years’ experience in emergency services OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Shall have a current certification as a Basic Structural Firefighter by TCFP.
• Hold a minimum current certification as an EMT Basic by TDSHS.
• Shall have a valid Texas Class B Driver’s License.
• TCFP Driver/ Operator - Pumper certification.
• Must have NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Driving Must be a US Citizen by birth or naturalization or permanent resident.
• Pass a drug test.
• Pass an entrance medical examination provided by the district.
• Driving records must comply with the department’s driving guidelines.


Preferred Qualifications:
• TCFP Driver/ Operator – Aerial certification. Must be able to obtain within 6 months of employment.
• TCFP Instructor I. Must be able to obtain within 12 months of employment.
• TCFP Officer I. Must be able to obtain within 12 months of employment.


Required Skills:
• Ability to execute all the skills required of a firefighter I and II as defined in the NFPA.
• Ability to proficiently execute all the skills required of an EMT-B.
• Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, in English.
• Strong team building, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work well without supervision.
• Able to handle suddenly changing work conditions and assignments.
• Working knowledge of emergency operations management and emergency tactics.
• Ability to pass Departmental Physical and Respiratory Protection medical examinations.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Ability to pass Department physical ability test.
