Salary: $62,141.40 (Including FLSA overtime on a 48/96 schedule)
Waller-Harris Emergency Services District No. 200 (“District”) is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Full-Time Firefighter.

Responsibilities:

The Full-Time Firefighter will be assigned to work a forty-eight (48) hour shift, working a 48/96 schedule. The Full-Time Firefighter will be responsible for responses to fire and emergency medical incidents, participate in public education activities, participate in various planning meetings, and perform general maintenance and upkeep of fire apparatus, equipment, and fire station.

Duties:

  • Perform all duties related to fire rescue, including connecting and carrying fire hoses, carrying, and setting up ladders, directing water and chemicals on burning structures, vegetation, vehicle, and other objects.
  • Hazardous material response.
  • Disaster assistance.
  • Rescue persons trapped in vehicles, burning buildings, and other places.
  • Observe and follow safety rules and regulations including wearing safety apparel and devices during the course and scope of job-related duties.
  • Inspect equipment and supplies daily to ensure that all emergencies can be handled; restock supplies.
  • Prepares various activity reports and other documentation.
  • Attend and complete all training as required.
  • Maintain required certifications.
  • Clean apparatus and equipment.
  • Administers first aid and emergency medical care to injured/ill persons consistent with the level authorized by EMS certification, established medical protocols, and standard operating procedures.
  • Report for duty on time and able to perform tasks.
  • Report to work free from the effects of illegal drugs or alcohol, and report to work free from impairment due to prescription drugs.
  • Ability to lift and carry 120 lbs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications:
• Shall possess a current certification as a Basic firefighter by TCFP or higher by time of employment, academy attendees welcome to test.
• Hold minimum current certification as an EMT through TDSHS by time of employment. EMS school students welcome to test.
• Must have NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 certifications.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be a US Citizen by birth or naturalization or permanent resident.
• Pass a drug test.
• Pass an entrance medical examination provided by the district.


Required Skills:
• Ability to execute all the skills required of a firefighter I and II as defined in the NFPA.
• Ability to proficiently execute all the skills required of an EMT-B.
• Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, in English.
• Able to handle suddenly changing work conditions and assignments.
• Working knowledge of emergency operations management and emergency tactics
